Job Description:

- Assist the pharmacist in the preparation, repackaging, compounding, filling, and delivery of medications.
- Perform activities related to dispensing medications in a developmentally appropriate manner for patients of all ages.
- Assist in the procurement, record keeping, storage, and distribution of controlled substances.
- Ensure the appropriateness of medication doses by entering patient information such as diagnosis, weight, allergies, and body surface area into the computer.
- Follow aseptic technique and infection control protocols in the preparation of sterile products.
- Complete annual recertification and score at least 90% on the aseptic technique/infection control skills and written exam.
- Insist that other technicians and pharmacists practice aseptic technique and infection control.
- Ensure medications prepared are correct as verified by the pharmacist, documented by a lack of dispensing errors.
- Demonstrate competence at batch, medication, and prescription order entry.
- Work with Pharmacy Support Services personnel to maintain adequate stock of medications and supplies, following procedures for stock replacement.
- Follow non-formulary procedures.
- Obtain pharmacist initial and final checks and assign dilution and expiration dating labels to medications according to departmental standards.

Skills:
- Knowledge of current hospital and departmental standards for handling pharmaceuticals.
- Math skills, reading skills, and good communication skills.
- Ability to operate equipment used in the preparation of sterile products.
