Job Title: Registered Nurse (RN)
Job Specialty: Surgical Services - Surgical Assistant
Job Duration: 20 weeks
Shift: 8-hour days, Monday - Friday, 0630/0700 - 1500/1530
Guaranteed Hours: 40 hours per week
Experience: Minimum of two years in the Operating Room with expertise in multiple specialty areas such as ortho, general, urology, podiatry, ENT, OB/GYN, and ophthalmology.
License: Licensed Registered Nurse (RN)
Certifications:
- Certification in perioperative nursing (CNOR)
- Current American Heart Association HealthCare Provider BLS (Basic Life Support)
- Completion of approved RNFA program that meets the AORN recommended education standards
- Preferred: Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing (BSN), ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
Must-Have: Experience with computerized charting using Epic and electronic Pyxis machines.
Job Description:
- Provide hemostasis to prevent fluid volume deficit by clamping or ligating vessels, and using electrosurgical or laser units, applying direct pressure, and using chemical agents to promote coagulation as directed by the surgeon.
- Create exposure of the operative site through the use of retractors and other instruments, suctioning, and sponging as necessary.
- Use surgical instruments consistently with their design and purpose as instructed by the surgeon.
- Handle all types of tissue properly to minimize potential for injury or compromised blood supply.
- Suture various types of tissue with appropriate suture materials and techniques, and assist in or independently close the wound under the surgeon's direction.
- Identify structures that should not be ligated and function as second assistant when available.
- Monitor patient care activities for quality improvement.
- Work in a unit that includes specialties such as ortho, general, urology, podiatry, ENT, OB/GYN, and ophthalmology.
- Flexible with hours of availability to provide services during work hours and on-call when needed.
- Participate in call coverage: 1-2 weekdays and every fourth weekend.
- Scrubs provided for dress code.
- Primarily work with outpatient, ambulatory patients, and occasionally inpatient urgent or emergent patients.
- Local candidates accepted.
Note: Orientation lasts 12 hours, and guaranteed hours do not apply during this period.
