Job Summary and Qualifications

SUMMARY OF DUTIES:

The Graduate Medical Education (GME) Vice President of Education will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of medical education at HCA Healthcare, driving excellence, innovation, and academic rigor across the organization's expansive Graduate Medical Education landscape.

Under the leadership of the GME Chief Academic Officer, the GME Vice President of Education will spearhead enterprise-wide initiatives to enhance resident and faculty educational activities across HCA Healthcare's portfolio of GME programs. This role requires strategic vision, academic leadership, and the ability to drive excellence at all levels, including undergraduate, graduate, and continuing medical education (UME, GME, and CME).

The GME Vice President of Education will serve as an architect of educational strategy, working closely with HCA leaders, external subject matter experts, and key stakeholders to develop and implement innovative, high-impact learning programs. The position will oversee critical areas such as faculty development, resident and fellow curricula, program director training and support, and technology-supported programs tailored to the evolving needs of HCA GME's five pillars of its Next Generation Impact Plan.

SUPERVISOR: GME Chief Academic Officer

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Strategic Leadership: Define and implement a comprehensive educational strategy that aligns with HCA Healthcare's mission and long-term academic goals.
  • Program Oversight & Innovation: Lead the design, execution, and evaluation of cutting-edge educational initiatives, ensuring alignment with best practices and accreditation standards and incorporating emerging technologies and conceptual frameworks in medical education.
  • Regulatory & Accreditation Compliance: Ensure all educational activities meet or exceed ACGME requirements, particularly specialty-specific didactics, faculty development, and competency-based resident education.
  • Faculty & Leadership Development: Develop structured faculty development programs, providing training and resources that empower educators to excel.
  • Curriculum Advancement: Drive the continuous evolution of resident and fellow curricula, integrating evidence-based learning methodologies, technology-enhanced education, and interprofessional collaboration.
  • Thought Leadership & National Visibility: Curate high-caliber learning experiences by engaging nationally recognized experts and industry influencers to promote and accelerate HCA Healthcare's reputation and preeminence in medical education.
  • Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement: Partner with Company leaders, division leadership, and program directors to foster a cohesive, system-wide educational framework that enhances learning outcomes and supports physician development.
  • Establishes clear, measurable, and strategic performance metrics across all activities within my scope to enhance accountability, drive operational excellence, and align with HCA Healthcare's overarching goals.
  • Develops, manages, and coordinates the activities of undergraduate medical students and other health professions learners across the organization.
  • Serves as the primary driver for creating and implementing needed enterprise-wide distance learning educational programs for GME programs and manages and oversees Continuing Medical Education programs and activities.
  • Assesses the training needs and skill gaps of residents/fellows, faculty, and program leaders within HCA GME and uses a competency framework to develop educational interventions with appropriate SMEs.
  • Collaborates with other HCA service line leaders on programs and educational activities related to medical education and faculty development.
  • Coordinates with colleagues at the home office to support annual resident and fellow orientation.
  • In cooperation with the division and hospital leaders, the dissemination of information regarding educational opportunities and programs of all graduate medical education programs is facilitated.
  • Travels as needed to the Divisions and facilities to handle a variety of medical education and related matters as appropriate.


EDUCATION:

  • Master's Degree required
  • Doctorate degree preferred

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

  • 10+ years of increasing responsibility in Medical Education positions
  • Demonstrated expertise in medical education leadership, curriculum design, and faculty development.
  • Strong understanding of ACGME accreditation standards and best practices in competency-based medical education.
  • Proven ability to build and sustain collaborative relationships with institutional leaders, faculty, and external experts.
  • Strategic thinking and execution capabilities to drive innovation in medical education.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to inspire and engage diverse stakeholders.


CERTIFICATION/LICENSE:

  • No license requirements

Knowledge of the day to day needs of a Graduate Medical Education (GME) programs

  • Knowledge of HCA operations, organizational policies, procedures, systems and objectives
  • Knowledge of GME accreditation and compliance requirements
  • Ability to stay abreast of the latest GME trends and accreditation requirements, instructional strategies and content development techniques, tools and vendors coupled with the flexibility to implement them
  • Ability to use various computer systems and applications
  • Ability to work within team environments successfully
  • Ability to plan, organize and supervise
  • Ability to travel extensively
  • Ability to complete complex engagements on time with desired results
  • Ability to exercise initiative, sound judgment and problem-solving techniques in the decision-making process
  • Subject matter expertise in instructional design and adult learning theory, eLearning development, communication theory, and other related topics
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with medical and administrative staff and residents
  • Ability to communicate clearly in writing and verbally
