A&M's Sales and Use Tax team advises clients on sales and use tax matters, including reverse audits, audit management controversy, event-based tax planning, and tax department process improvement projects. Working directly with company management, our tax professionals provide tailored services to assist your Finance organization and/or sales tax department with its operational performance improvement and implement comprehensive plans to maximize value, including the following areas - reverse audits, audit management and defense, uncollected sales tax recovery, restructuring, process and controls, nexus analysis, product taxability analysis, purchases analysis, and exposure analysis.

What will you be doing?

As a member of the A&M Sales & Use Tax team, you will:
  • Prepare and review detailed technical research memorandums for internal sources and clients
  • Provide support for reverse audits, controversy, tax planning, voluntary disclosure agreements, tax department process improvement projects and sales/use tax exposure analysis
  • Develop recommendations based on audit results to minimize exposure
  • Build relationships with client personnel as well as mentor and train staff
  • Work towards achieving business development / marketing goals
  • Ensure compliance with Sales and Use Tax regulations, including researching issues, filing requirements, and identifying information gaps
  • Maintain documentation for audits and provide assistance on audits and special projects
  • Conduct detailed Sales & Use tax technical research and prepare memorandums for internal and external stakeholders
  • Calculate, establish, and monitor FAS 5 Reserves for contingent gains and losses related to audits
  • Coordinate multi-state state and local tax revenue streams from government incentives
  • Perform multi-state sales and use tax research and due diligence analysis for business acquisitions or divestitures
  • Lead research projects to update the company's sales and use tax matrices
  • Communicate and collaborate with IT on system development and implementation projects
  • Build relationships with personnel at various locations to assist with sales and use tax issues
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting required
  • CMI, CPA, JD (with bachelor's degree in accounting, preferred), Masters in Taxation, or LLM required
  • At least 7 years of relevant experience in a sales & use tax practice at a public accounting firm or large consulting firm
  • Knowledge of accounting and financial reporting
  • Strong writing, analytical, research, excel, and organizational skills
  • Strong communication, presentation, project management, and business development skills
  • Strong sense of personal motivation as well as the ability to work with a team
  • Ability to work in a dynamic, time-sensitive environment
  • Strong tax audit, research, strategic thinking, judgment, negotiation, and presentation skills
  • Proficiency with Vertex tax software and SAP (ERP system)
  • Knowledge of process control and improvement
  • Ability to work on special projects and lead initiatives related to incentives, sales, and use tax
Full-time Positions and Part-time Positions Over 30 hours

Regular employees working 30 or more hours per week are also entitled to participate in Alvarez & Marsal Holdings' fringe benefits consisting of healthcare plans, flexible spending and savings accounts, life, AD&D, and disability coverages at rates determined from time to time as well as a 401(k) retirement plan. Provided the eligibility requirements are met, employees will also receive a discretionary contribution to their 401(k) from Alvarez & Marsal. Additionally, employees are eligible for paid time off including vacation, personal days, seventy-two (72) hours of sick time (prorated for part time employees), ten federal holidays, one floating holiday, and parental leave. The salary range is $ 110,000 - $140,000 annually, dependent on several variables including but not limited to education, experience, skills, and geography. In addition, A&M offers a discretionary bonus program which is based on a number of factors, including individual and firm performance. Please ask your recruiter for details.
