Your Opportunity:

The Project Manager (PM), reporting directly to the Senior Director of Operations (SDO) for Surgery Services, is responsible for guiding activities across all stages of the Institute for Healthcare Optimization (IHO) project, which aligns with the Alberta Surgical Initiative (ASI). Alberta Health Services (AHS) entered a 3-year contract with the Institute for Healthcare Optimization (IHO) to improve surgical flow at the sites representing 90% of surgical volume across Alberta. In partnership with AHS and IHO, Covenant Health is actively participating in phase II of the project.

Description:

The PM is responsible for providing leadership and direction to project management activities across all stages of the IHO project, including initiation, implementation, evaluation, and closure. The PM actively participates in decision making meetings and has decision making authority within the span set out by the Senior Director of Operations within the context of IHO methodologies and project management structures. The PM applies project management methodology and expertise, effectively facilitates diverse groups addressing complex issues, and skillfully engages stakeholders to develop effective and efficient solutions. The PM must possess the skills to use data and information to effectively advance quality and innovation. The PM is committed to quality improvement and appropriately applies change management and process improvement principles, knowledge, and expertise. This position holds a high degree of independence to direct, coordinate, facilitate, develop, implement, and evaluate surgical quality improvements as it is related to the IHO initiative and will seek guidance from the SDO appropriately for complex issues that may have broader organizational impact. This position will coordinate with multiple stakeholders both within assigned sites and across the province, where required. This position is non-unionized.

Required Qualifications:
Undergraduate degree in social sciences, health profession, management and/or business is required. Recent experience in project management, including knowledge of project management principles, tools, and methodologies. A demonstrated clear pattern of professional and personal development. Specialized expertise in planning methodologies, including quality improvement, project management, and change management across teams and sites. Coordination experience in project planning, execution, reporting, monitoring, and evaluation. Significant experience in problem solving, risk mitigation, concerns resolution, conflict resolution and negotiation.
Additional Required Qualifications:
Leadership skills, including demonstrated ability and comfort with leading a team, making decisions, coaching and teaching, and inspiring and building confidence in others in achieving results. Demonstrated ability to engage and foster relationships and partnerships with internal and external stakeholders to achieve results. Effective communicator with strong organizational skills, influencing skills, interpersonal skills, client focused orientation and commitment to providing quality services. Ability to develop, facilitate and deliver education to transfer knowledge. Experience in facilitating research, reviews and analysis, evaluations, and formal report development. Demonstrated ability to facilitate significant change.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master's degree in health, business, leadership, policy, or social sciences. Certificate/education in health systems leadership, quality improvement, change management, project management. 3 years of experience working in a healthcare organization of significant size, complexity and diversity. Experience working directly with clinicians; comfortable communicating with physicians, other health care professionals and executives.
