JOB SUMMARY
The Director of Mechanical Systems is responsible and accountable for the management and direction of the Mechanical Engineering Department people engaged in the design and development of electro-mechanical systems.
This position is subject to meeting U.S. export compliance and/or U.S. Government contracting citizenship eligibility requirements. Must be a US Citizen.
Responsible for:
Supervises exempt Managers and Supervisors within the Engineering Department and may supervise key professional and non-exempt technical personnel.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Master's degree (M.A.) or equivalent; and 10 to 15 years related experience and/or training. BS in engineering undergraduate degree required. Five years of supervisory engineering management experience desired. Requires experience with design and fabrication of mechanical and electro-mechanical systems, and environmental control systems. Experience and training in the Military/Aerospace Industry is required. General machine shop experience is a plus. Should have hands-on experience in hydraulics, mechanical feed systems, linear controls, basic electronics and servo-mechanisms, as well as experience in vapor cycle systems and thermodynamics. Professional and/or technical certifications from accredited educational institutions desired.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret the most complex documents. Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquires or complaints. Ability to write speeches and articles using original or innovative techniques or style. Ability to make effective and persuasive speeches and presentations on controversial or complex topics to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors. Ability to communicate in English. Proficient writing skills, in include proposal writing, required.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations. Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis. Ability to comprehend and apply principles of advanced calculus and modern algebra.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems. Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, musical notes, etc.,) in its most difficult phases. Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables. Ability to prioritize workload, complete tasks in a timely manner, exercise discretion, pay close attention to detail and produce a high level of accuracy. Ability to prioritize work and complete tasks in a timely manner is required.

COMPUTER SKILLS
Personal Computer literate. Spreadsheets & word processing (Word, Excel). CAD/SDRC or similar. Knowledge of structural and dynamic analysis software is an advantage. Knowledge of applications software as Mathcad and other graphics software is a plus.

PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS
Position involves sitting, standing and/or walking. Position requires ability to frequently exert up to 10 pounds of force to move objects and occasionally exert up to 20 pounds of force to move objects.
May involve some lifting. Involves sitting at desk and reading computer screen. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stand, stoop, kneel, reach or walk. This position requires that the employee be able to hear and speak clearly.
Must keep current with engineering field. Should be able to perform field support if required. Travel is occasionally required. Relatively long travel trips may be required from time to time. Extended hours and overtime are occasionally required to meet job requirements. Accountability to established schedules and/or time pressures required.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
Mainly office environment but occasionally working on the shop floor or visiting vendors or customers.
Work usually performed in air-conditioned office environment. Some work will occasionally be performed in the shop. Shop environment contains hazardous materials, dust, moving equipment, pneumatic equipment, hydraulic equipment, and metal chips from cutting, milling, drilling and turning operations. Employee is exposed to moving mechanical parts.
Must have the ability to be flexible and deal with changing conditions as required.
The wage range for this role considers allowances for a number of factors, including but not limited to required experience, skill level, prior training, licensure/certifications, education and other business needs. A reasonable estimate of the current range is \$134,798 - \$235,961.

JOB SUMMARY
The Director of Mechanical Systems is responsible and accountable for the management and direction of the Mechanical Engineering Department people engaged in the design and development of electro-mechanical systems.

Responsible for:
- Engineering Department achievement of Company contractual requirements and customer satisfaction within cost and schedule commitments.
- Improvement in department capabilities to support Company growth objectives through IR&D/CR&D personnel development and training.
- Preparation/implementation of planning to achieve continuous improvement in engineering excellence, productivity and profitability.
Supervises exempt Managers and Supervisors within the Engineering Department and may supervise key professional and non-exempt technical personnel.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Plan, organize and staff the Engineering Department to provide for an efficient use of people, equipment and facilities.
- Establish and maintain an appropriate engineering staff with the technical skills and experience to serve Company markets and growth objectives.
- Assure proper engineering and technical staff support of contracts undertaken by the Company to include:
- Full understanding of the contract(s) specifications, schedule, test and interface needs as well as the costs to perform contract requirements.
- Clear and written direction regarding assignment of responsibility and accountability.
- Establishment of meaningful budgets, schedule milestones and reportage sufficient to meeting contract commitments.
- Maintain technological currency within Company market areas and recommend/direct Company IR&D/CR&D efforts to promote engineering excellence and readiness for expanded market activity.
- Develop technical strategies for new products or programs and implement with IR&D/CR&D efforts, as applicable.
- To work closely with the V.P. of Engineering in evaluating prospective projects, preparing proposals and engineering support of marketing activities, where appropriate.
- Work closely with the Director of Operations to insure an efficient transition of projects from Engineering to Manufacturing.
- Perform building security code-out responsibilities as assigned.
