Summary Description

nbkc bank is currently looking for an SVP, Controller to join our Finance team.

As the Controller, you'll lead the Finance Department, manage accounting functions, and develop financial reporting processes to support management. You'll ensure the accuracy of financial statements and reports, assist with financial analysis and budgeting, and engage with regulators. You'll also handle complex accounting situations, oversee tax filings, and contribute to the development of accounting policies and workflow processes.

This position will work @Flex (a combination of both in the office and at home) based out of our Kansas City, MO office.

What you'll do
  • Supervise and review the preparation and filing/issuance of the internal and external financial reports to include balance sheets, income statements, regulatory, branch, profit center, investments, capital expenditures and other financial-related reports.
  • Ensure accuracy of financial statements, general ledger, and associated records.
  • Assist with proactively developing and enhancing concise, effective, and timely financial reporting and analysis utilizing extensive spreadsheets and other means to support decision makers in understanding key metrics and trends in the business.
  • Assist with and/or supervise the conducting of financial analysis projects, extracting data from various systems, evaluating business performance, and assisting departmental managers in budget/forecasting process to answer related budget versus actual and/or year-over-year variances questions.
  • Understand, assist and/or oversee more complicated accounting situations such as MSR bulk sales, loan servicing, and investments.
  • Engage with regulators on various safety and soundness areas being examined.
  • Participate in the management of the bank's liquidity position.
  • Evaluate processes, understand the implications that changes in accounting or business policies have on the department, make recommendations and work with department team members and/or other departments to implement changes.
  • Maintain an in-depth understanding of accounting processes and topics within the department to serve as a resource within department to answer team member questions, review work and provide feedback.
  • Assist with property tax reports, quarterly income tax filings, and the preparation of annual budgets.
  • Proactively solicit input and build business knowledge to help focus our planning tools on the important drivers of our business.
  • Perform final review of various financial related reports before submission to CFO/ Director of Finance and other department managers
  • Financial projects as assigned or requested by CFO/Director of Finance or other leaders.
  • Assist with the identification of excess spending or unusual trends in expenses.
  • Follows all applicable laws and regulations.
  • Performs other duties and projects as assigned.

What you'll bring
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting/finance
  • 8-10 years professional level work experience in accounting/finance.
  • Public Accounting experience and CPA designation preferred.
  • Knowledge of banking including financial statements and regulatory reporting, preferred.
  • Previous management experience.
  • Advanced knowledge and proven experience with Microsoft Office applications with emphasis in Excel.
