Washington University School of Medicine (WashU Medicine), the Department of Neurological Surgery, The Brain Tumor Center (BTC), and the Alvin J. Siteman Comprehensive Cancer Center in St. Louis invite applications for new faculty positions. Primary appointments will be on the tenure track within the Department of Neurological Surgery at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor level. Secondary appointments in other departments, such as Pathology/Immunology, Neuroscience, Genetics, Cell Biology & Physiology, and others will be considered. The successful candidate will develop and lead a vibrant, independent, collaborative, and cutting-edge research program and share our commitment to undergraduate and graduate education by supervising post-doctoral, graduate, and undergraduate research and teaching courses.
The applicant's research program should be broadly focused on pediatric brain tumor research such as immunotherapy; synthetic biology; epigenetics; molecular tumor drivers; and others. The BTC and Pediatric Brain Tumor Program is centered within the vibrant community of WashU Medicine-a global leader in cancer biology, neuroscience, immunology, molecular imaging, and highspeed comprehensive genomic and epigenetic research. Research laboratories from neurosurgery, neurology, medical and pediatric oncology, radiation oncology, radiology, immunology & pathology, and genetics seek new treatments for the most common as well as rare brain tumors. Leveraging cutting-edge medical, surgical, and radiation technologies at Siteman Cancer Center, one of the nation's elite cancer research institutions, and Barnes-Jewish Hospital and St. Louis Children's Hospital, our physicians and scientists have developed a broad-based clinical research portfolio with over 35 ongoing clinical trials.
BTC research laboratories are housed within the new $616 million, 11-story and 609,000 square-foot, state-of-the-art Neuroscience Research Building. The Neuroscience Research Building is located on the Washington University Medical Campus. The building project is the largest in the history of WashU Medicine and will span almost a block in the 200-acre Cortex Innovation Community-one of the fastest-growing business, innovation, and technology hubs in the United States.
WashU Medicine is a global leader in a wide range of frontier research arenas across all its basic science and clinical departments. Specifically, WashU Medicine has deep research strengths in the rapidly evolving area of immunology and is also leading the way in imaging research and comprehensive genomic and epigenetic research. With the unique size and breadth of neurosciences at the University, there is a wealth of opportunities for collaboration both within the School of Medicine and across the campus. The successful applicant will build on the campus-wide excellence in basic immunology, neuro-immunology, tumor immunology, biomedical engineering and material sciences, imaging, and genomics to develop a world-class brain tumor research program.
Candidates are expected to have a PhD, MD, or an equivalent degree in the field of immunology, biology, chemistry, biochemistry, neuroscience, physical sciences, or an engineering field.
