Job Summary

A Facilities/Process Engineer performs and leads process and/or mechanical design of oil and gas production and midstream facilities, including new installations, upgrades and retrofits to existing onshore and offshore facilities.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

(Assignments will vary depending on the nature of projects received from clients and candidate's applicable work experience, expertise and proficiency.)
Develop Design Basis criteria from piecemeal client information;
Recommend, develop and evaluate alternative processing concepts;
Perform process simulations and develop process flow diagrams with associated heat and material balance tables;
Develop P&IDs or mechanical flow sheets;
Coordinate with other disciplines to ensure an integrated design that meets project requirements;
Design of process (production separation, sour production sweetening, oil and gas dehydration, produced water treatment, export metering) and/or utility (fuel gas, chemical injection, instrument air, diesel, heat medium, cooling, drainage, power generation) systems;
Gather data, including production data, product specs and site condition data;
Perform sizing calculations for process equipment, piping, in-line instruments, valves, PSVs, and pipelines using company developed tools and/or process simulation software;
Perform and/or review process engineering studies (i.e. de-bottlenecking, vent/relief, hydraulic analysis, API 14C compliance) and develop associated reports and spreadsheets;
Develop written engineering reports and recommendations;
Prepare equipment specifications and data sheets;
Prepare specifications and data sheets for instruments and specialty items;
Process Hazards Analysis participation and Risk Identification;
Review and approve vendor quotations, drawings, and related submittals.
Projects that the Process Engineer could be involved in include:

o Oil & gas production, gas processing, gas treating, and related processes and utility systems

o Domestic and International projects

o Onshore and offshore projects

o PreFEED conceptual design and selection studies, Front End Engineering Design (FEED) and Detailed Engineering (DE)

Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities):

Basic or Minimum Requirements
BS degree or higher in Chemical or related Engineering degree with demonstrated process expertise required;
For candidates with engineering degrees attained outside the U.S., the candidate must have attained an E.I.T. designation from a U.S. based state licensing board;
Requires ten (10) or more years' experience in engineering design and/or project management of offshore oil and gas facilities;
Proficiency with process simulation using HYSYS or UNISIM required;
Requires knowledge of codes and standards associated with oil and gas production facilities and equipment installations (e.g. API, ANSI, ASME, NFPA);
Experience with developing sizing calculations, drawings, and data sheets associated with oil and gas production facilities including equipment & instrumentation;
Requires experience performing and documenting engineering studies associated with oil and gas production facilities;
Experience in gas plant design and/or Oil & Gas production systems preferred;
Availability and the ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously;
Must be eligible to work in the US without sponsorship.

Preferred Qualifications
P.E. License registration preferred;
Field experience in operations and/or construction a plus.

Working Conditions:
Work is primarily conducted in an office environment (Private or Semi-Private office) but may require occasional travel to off-site work locations;
Field duties may require outdoor work in a plant or offshore platform atmosphere;
Interaction with other team members, as well as supervisors and client personnel;
Working offshore or in plant and/or shop areas around production machinery with extreme noise levels;
Must be able to wear safety equipment as required by the safety department for personal protection;
May be at more than one job site in a day and must be able to tolerate climate changes;
May be required to travel out of town on a periodic basis.

  • Sufficient clarity of speech and hearing or other communication capabilities which permits employee to communicate effectively;
  • Ability to sit for prolonged periods of time;

  • Sufficient manual dexterity which permit the employee to perform routine office duties;
  • Sufficient personal mobility and physical reflexes to perform office duties and travel when necessary to off-site locations.
