Direct Counsel is seeking a Senior Employment Attorney to join a leading law firm's Employment & Labor group in Short Hills, NJ, or New York, NY. This is a non-partnership track role, ideal for an experienced employment attorney looking to focus on litigation, advisory work, and transactional employment matters.
Key Responsibilities:
- Litigation Management - Handle class actions and single-plaintiff employment disputes, including wage & hour claims, discrimination, harassment, retaliation, misclassification, wrongful termination, and breach of contract cases.
- Employment Law Counseling - Advise clients on employment policies, restrictive covenants, compensation structures, commission plans, and leave/accommodations issues (FMLA, ADA).
- Drafting & Negotiation - Prepare and negotiate employment agreements, severance packages, and other workplace-related contracts.
- Corporate Transactions - Conduct employment due diligence and advise on labor and employment aspects of M&A and other corporate deals.
- Regulatory Compliance - Provide guidance on federal and state employment laws, including wage & hour regulations, anti-discrimination laws, and compliance best practices.
- J.D. from an accredited law school and admission to the New Jersey and/or New York Bar.
- Minimum 8 years of experience in employment law, including litigation, advice & counsel, and transactional work.
- Strong knowledge of state and federal employment laws and experience handling cases before state/federal courts and administrative agencies.
- Experience in class and collective action defense is preferred.
- Ability to manage multiple complex cases, work independently, and collaborate with teams across practice areas.
- Excellent research, writing, and analytical skills, with strong negotiation and persuasive communication abilities.
- Hybrid work model - Regular in-office presence with remote flexibility.
- Salary range: $250,000 - $300,000 per year, based on experience and qualifications.
