Public Relations and Media Specialist
Position Purpose

The Public Relations and Media Specialist will be part of a growing team at the Alberta Construction Safety Association (ACSA) and will drive public and media relations strategies to enhance the Association's reputation, increase awareness of construction safety, and support the pursuit of the ACSA's goals and values. The successful candidate will support the Corporate Communications team, fostering collaboration and ensuring the smooth execution of daily activities. They will create impactful communications and media plans, build relationships with association publications, and oversee PR/media relations efforts.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Create, implement, and evaluate the public and media relations initiatives to deliver quality content, enhance brand awareness, and increase visibility for the ACSA, collaborating across departments and overseeing budgets for specific media campaigns.
  • Approach projects with avid curiosity to understand member and stakeholder needs, challenges, and opportunities. Analyze various inputs and recommend tailored ways to reach and engage stakeholders and improve ACSA programs, services, and initiatives.
  • Guide and mentor the communications team, ensuring effectiveness by executing communication strategies and plans.
  • Establish strong relationships with local, national, and trade media, providing the manager with media coverage and advertising performance metrics and equivalencies.
  • Provide expert advice and support on media relations/inquiries, responding promptly and effectively to reputation concerns by developing strategic communication plans to maintain and enhance the organization's public image.
  • Collaborate with team members, overseeing and creating engaging and informative content for various platforms, including websites, social media, and print.
  • Align internal communications with the emerging topics, construction progress, and milestones reached across the Association.
  • Ensure adherence to branding guidelines, representing Your ACSA's brand consistently and professionally while demonstrating integrity, honesty, and respect in all interactions.
  • Stay informed on external markets, latest research, news, tools, and industry trends and opportunities to support the team.
  • Promote evidence-based decision-making by measuring the success of initiatives, and sharing results, recommendations, and key lessons learned with team members.
  • Attend assigned industry events, reporting on the observations and outcomes of partnership activities.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • Education:
    • Post-secondary degree and/or diploma in Communications, Public/Media Relations.
  • Experience:
    • Minimum of 5 years experience in public/media relations or communications with a degree or minimum of seven years with a diploma.
    • Minimum 3 years experience managing media inquiries, public/media relations, and reputation concerns.
    • Experience providing guidance and mentorship to colleagues.
  • Required Skills and Abilities:
    • Strategic thinker with exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills.
    • Skilled in developing, executing, and evaluating successful communication plans.
    • Proficient in collecting, analyzing, and interpreting data to measure performance, identify trends, and contribute to evidence-based decision-making.
    • Effectively collaborates with various stakeholders within the organization, leveraging communication and cooperation to drive positive outcomes.
    • Ability to work independently as a strong and contributing member in a team environment.
    • Strong organizational, planning and prioritization skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to craft clear and persuasive messages for various audiences.
    • Excels at creative thinking and problem-solving, with a keen eye for detail.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and familiarity with traditional and digital communication platforms.

Logistics
  • This position requires a 40-hour work week.
  • This role is eligible for a hybrid work model (ACSA Edmonton office) three months after the start date.
  • Some travel, evening, and weekend work will be required based on business events such as conferences and workshops.
  • This role reports to the Manager of Corporate Communications

Salary: 80,448 - 86,581
