We want someone passionate about engineering and problem solving with a degree in Structural Engineering or Engineering Mechanics to join our team in the Engineering Mechanics and Infrastructure (EMI) group.
EMI applies engineering mechanics, materials science, numerical simulation, innovative technologies, and collective expertise to solve our clients' toughest problems in an inspiring work environment that nurtures life-long learning and growth. We provide significant advancement opportunities commensurate with performance. The EMI group provides services to facilities located in the United States and internationally requiring advanced and non-standard engineering methods, such as nuclear and non-nuclear power generation facilities, national defense installations, pipelines and tanks, bridges, precision observatories, and other non-building structures and systems. These services include seismic design and evaluation, probabilistic risk assessment, finite element analysis, accident analyses, drop load impact analysis, safety evaluations, inspections and investigations, and design of atypical industrial facilities and assets.
Under the direction of the Principal, s/he plans and performs engineering design and analyses of structures, systems, and components for extreme events (e.g. earthquakes, wind, explosions, and impact loads) and unconventional requirements (e.g. innovative materials/construction, resilience, business interruption, rapid deployment, monitoring, etc.); manages project budgets and schedules; assists with mentoring of junior staff; and interacts with clients.

Compensation:
Anticipated annual base salary: $105,040 - $144,560. This range is a good faith estimate pursuant to applicable equal pay and pay transparency laws. The actual salary offered will be based on several factors including the candidate's experience, qualifications and work location.
Base salary is a part of SGH's industry leading Total Compensation package. Our Total Compensation package includes base salary, pay for extra hours worked, an annual discretionary bonus program, generous paid time off, and health and wellness benefits with a special emphasis on substantial SGH contributions to medical insurance premiums and SGH's Profit Sharing & 401(k) Plan.

What You'll Do:
- Develop finite element models of structures using commercially available software and perform linear and nonlinear structural analyses using these models.
- Perform seismic soil-structure interaction analyses of building structures.
- Design industrial facility structures, equipment supports, anchorage, and misc. physical features.
- Work on routine problems independently and on project teams.
- Responsible for direct client contact within context of existing work.
- Prepare calculations, reports, and drawings documenting engineering analyses and design.
- Serve as a project manager on smaller to mid-size projects.
- Participate in business development/generation and marketing.
- Review work by analysts, designers, technicians, draftsmen, and others assisting the project team.
- Develop proposals, budgets, schedules, and client communications.
What You'll Need:
- M.S. or PhD in Structural Engineering, Engineering Mechanics, or similar fields with emphasis on structural analysis, structural dynamics, and engineering mechanics, or desire to obtain an MS within 3 years of employment at SGH using the tuition reimbursement program.
- Minimum of 5 -10 years of professional experience in structural engineering or engineering mechanics, preferably for non-building structures and/or critical infrastructure.
- Strong background in structural analysis, structural dynamics, structural design, and engineering mechanics is required.
- Knowledge and understanding of probabilistic concepts such as risk and reliability, uncertainty quantification, random vibrations, and/or stochastic processes.
- Strong oral and written communication skills in English are preferred.
- Professional Engineer (PE) or Structural Engineer (SE) license required.
- Experience with commercial finite element analysis computer programs, such as ANSYS, ABAQUS, LS-DYNA, and/or SAP2000.
- Proficiency with use of computer programming and scripting tools for engineering computations, such as Mathcad, MATLAB, Python, and/or VBA.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and in large multi-disciplinary teams.
- Ability to travel.
- May be required to work on projects that are subject to passing a security clearance check.
- Must have a valid driver's license and an acceptable Motor Vehicle Report.
