Example of Duties and Responsibilities
  • Supervision of Nursing Staff: Supervise nursing staff on assigned shift. Assign responsibilities and delegate authority; develops, assigns and evaluates proper and effective work methods. Evaluates nursing care and work performance.
  • Patient Care: Administer top-quality nursing care to patients and residents, ensuring the highest standards of practice.
  • Assessment and Evaluation: Conduct intake assessments, administer first aid and medications, and perform health screenings.
  • Care Planning: Assist in developing and evaluating individualized care plans, tailored to the unique needs of each patient.
  • Record Keeping: Maintain accurate and up-to-date health records for all patients, documenting changes in their condition and treatments provided.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with physicians, supervisors, and other healthcare staff to coordinate and implement effective patient care.
  • Education and Training: May provide guidance and direction to LPNs, CNAs, and other staff members. Participate in the orientation and training of new staff.
  • Administrative Duties: Enter patient information into various electronic systems, ensure adherence to health care policies and regulations, and communicate urgent medical needs to relevant personnel.
  • Patient Advocacy: Serve as a liaison between patients, families, and healthcare providers, ensuring clear communication and understanding of patient care plans.

    Will direct the general supervision of nursing staff and all nursing activities with the nursing units on assigned shift. Plans, organizes and coordinates the implementation of established policies within the units. Assigns responsibility and delegates authority; develops, assigns and evaluates proper and effective work methods. Evaluates nursing care and work performance. Assists in orientation of new personnel and provides in-service training for nursing staff on assigned shifts as needed. Evaluates the kind and amount of nursing services required, and assists in planning for effective management of each unit. Monitors records of nursing and treatments for accuracy. Counseling nursing personnel as needed. Monitors job performance and provides guidance for nursing personnel on assigned shift. Conducts evaluations of nursing staff on assigned shift. Communicates with the Director of Nursing (DON), social worker, pharmacist, psychologist, and medical doctor on changes in resident conditions. Monitors resident care to ensure residents are receiving optimal care according to guidelines and regulations. Visits residents throughout the shift, for supervision, communication, and reassurance, and confers with unit nurses on all problems. Informs physician and family and prepares reports covering such items as critically ill and emergency situations. Assumes the responsibility of the handling, dispensing, use of and recording of narcotics and medication within the units. Interprets hospital policies and regulations to staff members, residents and visitors and ensures conformance. Maintains a dignified and professional approach to employees and public relations. Performs related duties as required. Mandatory overtime is an essential function of this position. Demonstrated computer skills are required. Applicants selected for employment must successfully complete a chemical urinalysis and breath analysis drug screening test. All employees shall be subject to drug testing for probable cause as set forth in agency and bureau policies. This is a tobacco/smoke free campus. Minimum Qualifications
Education:

None.

Licensure/Certifications:

Current West Virginia licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN).

Experience:

Four (4) years of full-time or equivalent part-time experience in nursing.

Internal Applicants Only:

Three (3) years of full-time or equivalent part-time experience as a Registered Nurse and/or a specialty nursing classification (i.e. Charge Nurse, Infection Control Nurse, QAPI Nurse, etc.) may substitute for the required education and experience.
