Job Responsibilities
The Chief Informatics Epidemiologist is responsible for cross-cutting activities to support state and district Georgia epidemiologists to ensure the use of the web-based integrated disease surveillance and case management system, State Electronic Notifiable Disease Surveillance System (SendSS), and other health information exchange initiatives to meet department and grant-funded requirements. This includes managing the Informatics Epidemiologist 2 and collaborative relationships between Epidemiology and SendSS developers, DPH Informatics staff, and Georgia Public Health Laboratory staff as they pertain to notifiable disease reporting and data exchange. This position will functionally sit within the Epidemiology DIVISION to ensure the needs of the users are met while collaborating extensively with SendSS development and Informatics Staff. The Chief Informatics Epidemiologist will collaboratively review all development of SendSS business requirements alongside epidemiologists, SendSS developers and Informatics staff, oversee the triage of over 90 reportable infectious diseases, and together with the Informatics Epidemiologist, and manage the inclusion of external datasets into SendSS in a cross-cutting manner.
Minimum Qualifications
Doctorate degree in public health, epidemiology, biostatistics or a closely related field AND Two years of experience supervising/leading epidemiologic programs
OR
Master's degree in public health or a closely related field AND Three years of experience performing epidemiologic work or work in a closely related field in a supervisory or team lead role
OR
Two years of experience at the lower level Epidemiologist Spv (HCP183) or position equivalent with management/supervisory responsibilities

Job Responsibilities

- Provide interface between epidemiology users and SendSS developers to ensure programmatic needs are met through new and existing development.
- Supervise Informatics Epidemiologist 2.
- Coordinate new development/functionality requests.
- Assist with prioritization of new development requests.
- Support epidemiology users with testing of new development.
- Troubleshoot functionality problems in SendSS reported by epidemiology users.
- Ensure new SendSS development/functionality is communicated widely to applicable public health users in district and state epidemiology positions.
- Examples of tasks might include: Message Mapping Guide (MMG) onboarding, case report form development, ELR/eCR development, implementation, and validation, SendSS application use during public health emergency response, etc.
Minimum Qualifications

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Significant experience working collaboratively with epidemiologists and SENDSS system developers.
- Experience prioritizing user development needs.
- Experience working with federal agencies (EX.CDC) on electronic data transmission.
- Experience with RCKMS and electronic case reporting (ECR).
- Experience working with and/or implementing health information exchanges in a public health setting.
