Description:
Position Purpose: To provide oversight, coordination, management support and technical expertise for all aspects of substation, overhead transmission and distribution line construction, maintenance, modification and replacement.
Essential Responsibilities
Work with the project team to oversee construction activity to ensure projects are constructed in accordance with design, budget, and schedule
Prepare electrical utility construction proposals and estimates, including drawing take-offs
Expected to forecast and report on project profitability while managing project budget
Monitor and approve weekly payroll, equipment and tool reporting
Manage and oversee all subcontractors
Review all job costs invoices and transactions to facilitate timely billing
Regional travel with overnight stays is required
Demonstrate safety leadership by supporting the implementation and management of the MJE Safety Management System.
Promote proactive and preventive safety activities by observing, analyzing, encouraging safe work behaviors and correcting unsafe conditions.
Integrate safety into project plans, establish safety goals, reinforce safety policies and procedures, support safety training, and monitor safety metrics.
Support and coach supervisors and employees, provide feedback to encourage learning and create awareness, set priorities and focus on continuous improvement
Ensure that MJE Senior Management is kept current on the progress of construction projects, business opportunities and industry trends
Systematically and regularly appraise and evaluate project progress against established goals, timelines and objectives. Provide assistance to Assistant Project Managers to correct deficiencies in these areas
Consult with Utilities, Clients and Owners regarding design requirements, job specifications, bid requirements and offer technical expertise regarding construction solutions
Promote and develop common systems and processes to provide for proper accounting, reporting of project costs, customer billing, scheduling, material procurement, record keeping, documentation and budgeting by Project Managers
Act to ensure key project input including environmental, regulatory and governmental relations, public relations and landowner concerns are appropriately addressed on construction projects throughout the region
Delegate activities, responsibilities, and authorities, ensuring appropriate levels and assignments of accountability are defined and understood
Assist with the development and tracking of key performance metrics
Stay current on construction management trends and ensure Project Management personnel are informed of significant changes
Monitor equipment type, purchases, usage, inspection, maintenance, and servicing throughout the region
Knowledge | Skills | Abilities
Knowledge of utility construction practices
Experience managing project financials
Knowledge, interpretation and administration of collective bargaining agreements.
Strong communication, interpersonal and negotiations skills.
Strong PC skills and software proficiency.
Strong managerial/leadership skills.
Ability to provide oversight to numerous projects throughout a large geographic area
Ability to anticipate and meet customers' needs
Supervisory Experience
Ability to oversee large complex projects, portfolio of small projects or be a single point of contact for a large customer
Qualifications
BS/BA in Engineering, Construction Management, Business Administration, or related field preferred
4-7 years of Project Management, Engineering, Construction Management or related experience in the utility construction industry
Work Environment
Must be able to remain standing approximately 50% of the time
Occasional bending, stooping, squatting, reaching, climbing
The person in this position frequently communicates with employees and vendors and must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations
Occasionally works in outdoor weather conditions
Occasionally lifting 40 pounds
