Job Description Summary
Organization's Summary Statement:
The Executive Director is the principal environmental health and safety, sustainability, and risk management administrator of the university. The incumbent reports to the Vice President for Administration and is responsible for strategic direction in multiple areas of environmental health and safety risk exposure including research safety, occupational safety and health, fire safety, and environmental management. The position is responsible for the risk management program as well as the office of sustainability. The Executive Director serves as a senior leader in the Division of Administration.
As the head of the Department of Environmental Safety, Sustainability and Risk (ESSR), the incumbent designs, directs, and manages the staffing, services, and budget for ESSR and its units and develops policies and implements programs to address regulatory requirements, laws, standards, and best practices related to the programs. The position has responsibility to Identify and implement policies and programs to assure compliance with regulations and accepted best practices. The position works cooperatively across the university to address issues of common interest and concern.
Preferences:
Master's degree, PhD or Doctorate from an accredited college/university
Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), or Certified Health Physicist (CHP) are preferred.
Minimum Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
Experience: Ten (10) years of experience in environment health or safety. Five (5) years of experience supervising or managing professional staff. Knowledge of environmental health and safety principles, practices, laws and regulations.
Knowledge of regulations applicable to an academic research institution and a working knowledge of legislative and regulatory processes.
Skill in oral and written communication.
Skill in the use of Microsoft Office products.
Ability to interpret and apply policies, procedures, regulations, and laws.
Ability to multitask while demonstrating a commitment to customer service and sensitivity to a culturally and ethnically diverse community.
