This position is available within the University of Maryland's Division of Information Technology (DIT).

Join our team to be a part of the exciting transformation as we migrate UMD computing systems to a modern cloud-based solution. The Software Engineer, Data Conversion will use various technologies to migrate data from legacy systems to the Workday platform as part of the Workday Student implementation. The position is hands-on, agile, team-based development.

The Software Engineer is responsible for:
  • Implementing solutions within a development team.
  • Following a formal development methodology and working within scheduled timelines.
  • Participating in peer code reviews, documentation, and formal testing.


Essential Duties:

Produce deliverables including working application software, prototypes, and unit tests.

Produce project and system documentation including specifications, technical requirements, test plans, and database schema diagrams.

Participate in planning sessions, code reviews, and professional development activities.

Physical Demands:

Sedentary work. Employee will need to be able to sit for long periods of time to work on a computer, as well as travel occasionally to meet with clients and customers on and off campus. May need to work evenings and/or weekends. This position is considered an essential position and may be required to work at the normal work location or an alternative location during a major catastrophic event, weather emergency, or other operational emergencies to help maintain continuity of University services.

Preferences:

Experience with ETL platforms like Informatica/Fabric/Datastage.

Experience with SQL and Python

Experience using AWS for data applications (e.g. S3, Redshift)

Experience with Oracle.

Ability to conduct research and data analysis.

Essential Position:

This position is considered essential and may be required to work at the normal work location or an alternative location during a major catastrophic event, weather emergency, or other operational emergency to help maintain the continuity of University services.

Minimum Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.

Experience: Two (2) years of professional experience supporting the operations, maintenance, and administration of information technology infrastructure.

Other: Additional work experience as defined above may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for up to four (4) years of the required education.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:

Ability to follow directions from more senior team members but also able to work independently.
Ability to effectively manage workload and delivery assignments on time.
Ability to provide basic mentorship to junior staff members.
Skilled in effective written and oral communication.
Skilled in customer service.
Skilled in the use of office productivity software such as Office 365 or Google Workspaces.
Knowledge of developing custom interfaces and websites, using HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript.
Knowledge of various software development methodologies with experience in Java or other high level languages.
Ability to create custom code that meets expectation.
Ability to interpret and apply policies, procedures, regulations, and laws.
Ability to multitask while demonstrating a commitment to customer service and sensitivity to a culturally and ethnically diverse community.
