Job Description
Job Title: Cath Lab Technician
Job Specialty: Interventional Services
Job Duration: 26 weeks
Shift: 8 Hours Rotating
Guaranteed Hours: 40 hours per week
Experience: Must have experience in a cath lab
License: Applicable professional license
Certifications: Relevant certifications for Cath Lab and Interventional Radiology/EP
Must-Have: Cath lab training; Competency in Electrophysiology (EP) or Interventional Radiology (IR) is a plus; No IR-only or EP-only technicians
Job Description:
- Work hours are 0700-1730, 4 days of 10-hour shifts, with after-hours call (typically about once per week and every 4-6 weekends).
- Ideally trained in Cath Lab and Interventional Radiology.
- Perform roles such as RN: Circulate in the cath lab and Interventional Radiology, operate (monitor) hemodynamic monitoring/documentation system, or perform scrub assist role in the Cath Lab.
- Perform roles such as RTR: Manage x-ray table, operate (monitor) hemodynamic monitoring/documentation system, and perform scrub assist role in the Cath Lab; operate x-ray equipment and perform scrub assist role in Interventional Radiology.
- Assigned to one room per day (Cath Lab or Interventional Radiology).
- Rotate roles within the room among trained staff.
- RN administers and monitors sedation; RTR manages x-ray in conjunction with MD; scrub and hemo monitoring can be done by RN or RTR.
- Willing to consider Cath Lab-only or Interventional Radiology-only staff.
- Preference for candidates with the ability to perform at least two roles: could be Cath Lab scrub or monitor, or circulate in both Cath Lab and Interventional Radiology.
- Not likely to hire a staff member who can only do one role due to scheduling constraints.
- Cath Lab responsibilities include procedures for interventional cath lab patients (diagnostic, PCI, rotational atherectomy, shockwave, IABP, Impella, etc.).
- Interventional Radiology tasks involve working with vascular surgeons for peripheral angiography, fistulagrams, tunneled catheter insertions, etc.; neurosurgeon for elective diagnostic and interventional neuro procedures (angiogram, coiling, carotid stenting, etc.), kyphoplasty; radiologists for tubes, drains, TIPS, embolization, etc.
- Typical after-hours call assignments are usually one night per week and about every 4-6 weekends, totaling 4-5 nights per 4-week schedule.
