Job Summary:

RPO is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Automation Engineer to join our team and contribute to the continued success of our cutting-edge manufacturing processes. This role will play a key role in optimizing and automating manufacturing processes within multiple precision optics production lines. You will be responsible for designing, developing, and implementing automated systems to improve productivity, reduce costs, and ensure the highest levels of product quality. This role will require you to work closely with cross-functional teams, including engineering, manufacturing, and quality assurance. You Will:
  • Design, develop, and implement automated systems for precision optics manufacturing processes.
  • Analyze production workflows to identify opportunities for automation and process optimization.
  • Ability to engineer from circuit concept, schematic capture, through panel box construction
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate automation solutions with existing equipment and production lines.
  • Create and modify PLC, HMI, and SCADA programs to control automated systems.
  • Design, build, debug issues with automated systems to minimize downtime.
  • Develop and maintain documentation related to automated systems, including schematics, manuals, and standard operating procedures.
  • Conduct training sessions for operators and other team members on automation systems and procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with safety and regulatory standards in all automation activities.
  • Work on continuous improvement initiatives to enhance system reliability, efficiency, and accuracy.
  • Evaluate new automation technologies and tools to stay ahead of industry trends.


You Have:
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, Automation, or a related field.
  • 7+ years of experience in automation engineering, preferably within a precision manufacturing environment.
  • Familiar with PLC programming, HMI/SCADA systems, and industrial control systems.
  • Familiar with robotic programing (ABB, Fanuc, UR, or others)
  • Electrical Engineering Design and Panel Box Construction
  • Solid understanding of robotic automation, vision systems, and motion control.
  • Familiarity with machine learning or AI-based process optimization (a plus).
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Experience with CAD software and automation design tools.
  • Proficient with 3D modeling methods and 3D printing. SolidWorks preferred.
  • Knowledge of safety protocols and industry standards in automation.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines.

Environment & Physical Demands:
  • Professional office environment with routine use of standard office equipment such as computers, phones, copiers, filing cabinets and fax machine; noise level typical of a standard office environment
  • Prolonged sitting, computer and telephone use, as well as standing, filing, bending, reaching and lifting and carrying up to 15 pounds
  • Occasional exposure to manufacturing plant floor requiring the use of personal protective equipment (ear plugs, safety glasses, etc.)
