About the Role
The Township is seeking a Supervisor of Operations - Transportation who will be responsible for overseeing daily operations, maintenance, scheduling, and customer service to ensure compliance with service levels and legislative standards. This role involves supervising and motivating a team, including equipment operators, labourers, and contracted service providers, to achieve departmental goals. Key responsibilities include managing staff performance, ensuring workplace safety, developing standard operating procedures, and coordinating maintenance activities. The Supervisor also handles resident and stakeholder inquiries, investigates complaints, and ensures efficient project execution and resource optimization. Additionally, the Supervisor oversees the maintenance of various assets, including roads, winter maintenance, traffic, forestry, rural drainage, bridges, signs, and markings. They will also need to work and coordinate with another Supervisor located at a different facility, ensuring seamless collaboration and effective communication between the two locations.
The Supervisor works with various stakeholders, including neighbouring municipalities, consultants, and regulatory agencies, to ensure compliance with relevant legislation and standards. The role requires effective leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills, as well as a background in civil, construction, or environmental technology. The ideal candidate will have supervisory experience in a unionized environment, hold a Certified Roads Supervisor (CRS) designation or the ability to attain and a thorough understanding of municipal operations regulations, health and safety regulations, surface mining, and vehicle and equipment operations. The successful candidate must hold and maintain a "DZ" license and live within proximity to adequately respond to operational requirements. This position demands a commitment to public service excellence, continuous improvement, and effective team management. The working hours for this position are a standard 40-hour work week, with the requirement to participate in an on-call rotation to provide staff direction with staff working over multiple shifts and respond to after-hour emergencies or staff support as needed.
