Summary

This position is responsible for designing, implementing, and managing the training program for field service personnel through an apprenticeship model. The role involves serving as a key liaison between the company and local educational institutions, colleges, and community resources to attract and recruit qualified candidates. The manager will ensure that training programs align with company standards and foster the professional growth of field service staff. Internally, this position will collaborate with cross-departmental teams to ensure new hires are trained not only in practical, hands-on skills but also in the company culture, product knowledge, and associated technologies.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • TRAINING DEVELOPMENT AND MANAGEMENT
    • Design and implement comprehensive training programs for field service personnel, ensuring alignment with industry standards and company objectives.
    • Develop Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for training processes and materials, ensuring consistency and quality in training delivery.
    • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of training programs, making necessary adjustments based on feedback and performance metrics.
  • APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAM OVERSIGHT
    • Lead the development and management of an apprenticeship program, collaborating with local colleges and vocational training institutions.
    • Recruit, train, and mentor apprentices, ensuring they receive a well-rounded education and practical experience in the field.
  • BUSINESS LIAISON ACTIVITIES
    • Establish and maintain relationships with local educational institutions, workforce development programs, and community organizations to source qualified candidates.
    • Represent the company at job fairs, career days, and other recruitment events to promote training and apprenticeship opportunities.
  • COLLABORATION AND COMMUNICATION
    • Work closely with field service management to identify training needs and ensure alignment with operational goals.
    • Communicate training expectations and career development opportunities to field service personnel.


  • PROGRAM EVALUATION AND REPORTING
    • Collect and analyze data on training program effectiveness, participant performance, and feedback to inform continuous improvement efforts.
    • Prepare and present reports on training initiatives, outcomes, and recommendations to senior management.


    knowledge, skills and abilities

    Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public. Must have mechanical / electrical aptitude. Must be computer literate and have familiarity with MS Office software.

    Must be able to solve practical problems and deal with a multiplicity of tangible variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

    Must be able to travel 25-30% to training locations, educational institutions, and field service sights. Able to flex work schedule to accommodate training schedules and field service operations.

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

    Indirect - oversee apprentices until assigned a lead on the field service team

    WORK ENVIRONMENT

    Usual office working conditions with moderate noise such as computers and printers, telephones and copy machines. Exposure to shop conditions and elements such as odor, noise, dust, heat, cold, and / or chemicals.

    Minimum qualifications

    Bachelor's degree in Technical/Engineering field, Education or Business Administration, or related field and a minimum of 3 years of related training program development and management experience preferably in a field service or technical environment.

    Strong understanding of apprenticeship programs and collaboration with educational institutions. Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.

    External - 30% (Operators - 5%, Reps 5%, Contractor/PM - 10%, Engineers - 10%)
