Job Description
The Utah Department of Transportation is currently looking for an organized, motivated and skilled individual to fill the Pavement Design Engineer/Project Manager (Engineer III) position with the Region Two Materials Lab.

Job Description

In this position, you will function as the Project Manager and Project Designer for the pavement preservation projects (Orange Book projects) for Region Two. This is a unique position within UDOT as you will be responsible for performing both the pavement designs and project management for Region Two construction projects. The Pavement Design Engineer/Project Manager directs the project from the planning phase through design and assists through construction.

Principle Duties
As the Pavement Design Engineer/Project Manager, you are responsible for:
  • Performing pavement design for all Region Two construction projects.
  • Writing necessary materials specifications.
  • Working with the Pavement Management Engineer to maintain Region Two pavement network condition.
  • Defining a project scope.
  • Preparing project estimates, budgets, and schedules.
  • Participating in the design reviews for all Region Two construction projects.
  • Coordinating and monitoring the work involved in the tasks.
  • Ensuring that pavement preservation projects follow UDOT advertising and design processes.
  • Coordinating with other Project Managers and Designers.
  • Coordinating with the Region Two Materials Lab Manager to obtain pavement samples and soils samples for testing.
  • Coordinating project issues through continuing and timely communication with the Department's partners, public involvement, risk assessment, management, and monthly project schedule and accounting updates.
  • Any other duties as assigned.
Minimum QualificationsThe qualified candidate for the Pavement Design Engineer/Project Manager position will have:
  • A Professional Engineer (PE) license in Utah in accordance with the provisions of Utah Code Annotated 58-22.
  • Strong communication, facilitation, and organizational skills.
  • Excellent skills in identifying and solving complex problems.
  • The ability to mentor and train others.
This position may be filled as an Engineer II for those who are not qualified for the Engineer III level. For the Engineer II level (salary range $33.55 - $56.17), the qualified candidate will have:
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering; and
  • Proof of passing the Fundamentals of Engineering Exam (FE); and
  • Completed at least two years of post-graduate engineering experience. (A Master's degree in a related field may be considered for one year of post-graduate experience.)

  • Working Conditions: Risks found in the typical office setting, which is adequately lighted, heated and ventilated, e.g., safe use of office equipment, avoiding trips and falls, observing fire regulations, etc.
