Position Overview:
Schooley Law Firm, P.C. is seeking a highly motivated junior, mid, or senior-level associate with high aspirations for career development to join its esteemed boutique trusts, estates, and tax practice in Richmond, Virginia. This is an opportunity for an associate to grow with the practice, working on sophisticated transactions for high-net-worth individuals, gaining extensive client contact, and benefiting from an environment that encourages consistent personal and professional development.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Handle initial client meetings, draft estate planning documents, and complete engagements.
  • Work with a team and be capable of self-direction.
  • Focus on detail and demonstrate excellent research, writing, and verbal communication skills.
  • Gain experience in estate planning, estate administration, and trust administration.
  • Engage in estate, gift, and GST tax planning.

Qualifications:
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in estate planning, estate administration, and trust administration.
  • Experience with high-net-worth individuals and families is preferred.
  • Experience in business and marital planning is a plus.
  • Candidates should have the capacity to work with wealthy individuals and be capable of building client relationships.
  • LL.M. in Taxation or Estate Planning, or a law degree from a top-tier law school preferred.
  • Ranked in the top quartile of their law school class is preferred.
  • Virginia Bar admission or eligibility is required.

Additional Requirements:
  • A candidate should be fully committed to a trusts and estates practice, rather than someone who has only "dabbled" in wills.
  • The ideal candidate will have the capacity to become an owner of the practice, taking over clients with $30M-$100M of net worth.
  • Candidates should have the ability to communicate with wealthy individuals with ease.
  • High-quality candidates are expected, with a background from top-tier law schools or with exceptional academic credentials.
  • Malpractice risk is too high to hire someone without the proper mentoring in this practice area.

Compensation and Benefits:
  • Salary is commensurate with experience.
