In this role, you will perform a full range of general and acute care surgeries with access to MIS and robotic care. The Surgeon is responsible for diagnosing and treating a wide range of surgical conditions and performing elective and emergent surgical procedures on patients with injuries or illnesses within their field of specialty. They are responsible for managing patient care before, during, and after surgery and leading the surgical team throughout the process. Key responsibilities include review of patient imaging, communicating with the patient pre-procedure, preparing for surgery and completing surgeries with the assistance of other surgeons, physician assistants, nurses, and surgical professionals. The Surgeon communicates with patients and family post-surgery and provides recommendations on recovery process. Enjoys working and consulting closely with other healthcare professionals within the Group and in the Hoag enterprise.

Key essential functions include:
Examining patients to make diagnoses and treat illnesses and injuries; collecting the patient's medical history.
Performing surgeries and leading the surgical team.
Keeping charting and patient information up to date with current test results and treatments.
Ordering new tests to be performed by healthcare staff as necessary; review test results to identify and diagnose medical conditions.
Developing treatment plans for patient care, including preoperative, intraoperative and postoperative plans.
Addressing any of the questions or concerns of the patient or their family.
Aiding patients through the healing process by providing post-surgical care and follow up
Collaborating within a team of other medical professionals.
Providing expert advice to other medical professional regarding complex cases.
Responding to and performing surgery in critical situations.
Adhering to Group policies, procedures and objectives, ongoing quality improvement objectives and safety, environmental, and infection control standards.
Maintaining patient confidentiality and complying with all federal and state health information privacy laws.
Recording complete, timely and legible medical records according to group standards.
Conducting periodic patient rounding as applicable.
Mentoring advance practice providers, students, and staff.
Participating in community health promotion programs, and education as needed.
Participate in General Surgery on call rotation. When on call be readily available to respond to emergency and urgent surgical needs, including being reachable at all times and prepared to perform surgery immediately if necessary.
May spend some percent of time providing administrative services for the Group, as agreed to by physician and directed by the Group Leadership.

Requirements

Education, Training and Experience

Required:
Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree
Active CA medical license-unrestricted
Active DEA license
Board Certification or Board Eligibility in Specialty
Commitment to providing exceptional patient care

Preferred:
At least 3-5 years of surgical experience is strongly preferred.
Adheres to established electronic health record (EHR) utilization and Coding standards
In good standing as a member of the Group and medical staff of Hoag Hospital

Skills or Other Qualifications

Required:
Strong surgical skills, manual dexterity, hand-eye coordination and visuospatial awareness
Strong problem-solving, analytical, communication and interpersonal skills. Effectively able to counsel patients utilizing independent professional judgement.
Ability to work independently and efficiently with all required patient activities and communications.
Ability to observe, assess and record symptoms, reactions and progress.
Excellent decision-making in emergency cases.
Demonstrates empathy with patients and a reassuring presence.
Strong interpersonal skill and ability to communicate effectively with a diverse population.
Must stay up to date on advancements, innovations, and developments within area of specialty.

Salary Range: $300,000 - $400,000
