Description:

Alberta Health Services (AHS), Department of Child Health, is inviting applicants to apply for Pediatric Hospital positions.

Responsibilities:
Total 20 weeks of coverage on the Pediatric Hospital Medicine services, including Clinical Teaching Unit (CTU) and non-teaching services.
This can be divided among 3-4 positions with a minimum commitment of 6 weeks per year per position.

oClinical duties include serving as MRP for all patients on assigned service for 7-day blocks (including weekends)

oDaily rounds on all patients on assigned service

oConsultations and admissions from the Emergency Department

oAccepting patients in transfer from Intensive Care units

oConsultations on patients admitted under surgical or subspecialty services on request

oRegular and as-needed communication with patients and parents/guardians

oClinical management including diagnosis and treatment for pediatric inpatients with a wide range of conditions including those with significant medical complexity and technology dependence

oEnsuring appropriate documentation Connect Care in adherence with Medical Staff Bylaws

oCollaboration with a range of multidisciplinary care providers

oComprehensive discharge planning including timely communication with community providers

oOvernight on-call coverage (home call) for up to 36 nights annually
Other duties include:

oSupervision of medical learners (residents and medical students), including provision of feedback and completion of evaluation forms (on CTU services)

oParticipation in business meetings and other activities of the Section of Pediatric Hospital Medicine

o Active engagement in Quality Improvement initiatives related to the clinical activities of the Section of Pediatric Hospital Medicine.

Candidates must have superior interpersonal skills with a demonstrated commitment to teamwork, process building and peer relationships. They should have experience in providing high-quality, family-centred care to a diverse range of pediatric patients in the inpatient setting.

Interested applicants must hold an MD and FRCPC (Pediatrics) or equivalent, must have at least 12 months of independent clinical practice experience in Canada or additional postgraduate training following completion of their General Pediatrics residency, and be in good standing with the College of Physicians & Surgeons of Alberta or be eligible for licensure in Alberta.
