Position Overview:

The Specialist will be an integral part of the team designing and building a new metal, alloy, and magnet-making facility. This is a rare opportunity to have a central role in the development of a greenfield advanced manufacturing facility and helping to define the future of American manufacturing.

The ideal candidate is an Instrumentation, PLC, network communications and robotics enthusiast. This position will require a vibrant approach to sensors, controls, and network as well as diverse knowledge of relevant programming languages and experience with a wide range of PLC platforms, fluent with cad software and reading diagrams.

The new facility will contain a broad range of chemical, mechanical, and thermal processes, including electrowinning, strip casting, powder production, pressing & sintering, machining, and assembly. Because of the broad range of processes in use, it is important that the Controls Technician be able to engage with a broad range of technical specialists and gain a working understanding of the physical processes, key control metrics, and potential hazards involved. A key aspect of this role will be the development, operation, and continuous improvement of a unified Mission Control Center in the plant to capture and report live data from all the above processes, including the integrated and consistent development of each networked machine's control system.

Position Responsibilities:
  • Work closely with EHS to ensure that all work is done to ensure world class health and safety, and full compliance with relevant regulations.
  • Work in partnership with all members of engineering design team to create automated processes with an integrated process flow.
  • Collaborate with the process design team.
  • Write and debug code for industrial automation as required.

  • Produce the required documentation for all work to seamlessly hand off to end users following all corporate procedures.

  • Drawings reviews/corrections
  • Backups
  • Deploy, commission, and troubleshoot our networked industrial automation systems and components.
  • Support continuous improvement activities to produce ongoing, meaningful improvements to worker safety, process uptime, and product quality.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Basic Qualifications:
  • Professional apprenticeship program, AAS, or equivalent experience in Control Engineering, Robotics and Automation/Mechatronics, or related areas.
  • 3+ years of experience in Process Control and Automation within a manufacturing environment.
  • Sound knowledge of Process Safety.
  • Knowledge of industrial automation.
  • Strong troubleshooting automation systems skills.
  • Diversity of programming languages and PLC platform knowledge.
  • Knowledge of industrial networks and protocols.
  • Experience reading, redlining and modifying control and automation drawings/diagrams.
  • Capability for manual and powered tools for basic assembly jobs.
  • Physical ability to work in the plant floor during project's start up.
