Job Description
We are seeking a Data Economist with a deep understanding of macroeconomic trends, particularly within the UK and US economic landscapes. This role will leverage economic insights and data analytics to support Sage's Data for Good program, providing SMBs with actionable insights and advocating for their success. Additionally, the Data Economist will drive data partnerships to enhance large language model (LLM) training and expand Sage's impact in AI-driven economic research. The Data Economist role within Sage, highlighting the Data Economist team focuses on data and AI for external-facing products.
Key Responsibilities
Economic Analysis & Insights
Analyze macro and microeconomic trends across the UK and US, providing insights that support SMBs.
Develop data-driven reports and economic forecasts to guide Sage's business strategy and public initiatives.
Identify and assess economic risks and opportunities for SMBs, helping inform policy recommendations and business strategies.
Data for Good Program & SMB Support
Use economic data and analytics to empower SMBs, helping them make informed business decisions.
Design and implement data-driven tools that provide real-time economic insights for SMBs.
Collaborate with internal teams to develop thought leadership content, whitepapers, and reports on economic trends impacting SMBs.
Data Partnerships & AI/LLM Integration
Identify and establish data partnerships with research institutions, governments, and private organizations to enrich Sage's economic data assets.
Work with Sage's AI and Data Science teams to provide high-quality, structured economic data for training large language models (LLMs).
Advocate for ethical and impactful use of economic data in AI applications.
Required Qualifications & Experience
Advanced degree (Master's or PhD) in Economics, Data Science, Statistics, or a related field.
Strong knowledge of macro and microeconomic trends, particularly in the UK and US.
Experience analyzing economic data sets, developing insights, and creating data-driven reports.
Familiarity with data science tools (Python, R, SQL) and economic modeling techniques.
Understanding of SMB challenges and economic factors influencing their growth.
Experience working with large-scale datasets and collaborating on data partnerships.
Ability to communicate complex economic insights to non-technical audiences.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working with government or financial institutions on economic policy or data projects.
Knowledge of LLM training, AI ethics, and data governance.
Experience in public-private partnerships focused on economic research.
Strong network in the economics, finance, and AI research community.
