The Communicable Disease Bureau (CDB) within the Center for Healthy and Safe Communities (CHSC) oversees programs to respond to common infectious diseases including HIV, STD, hepatitis and TB, while also providing services for child and adult immunization/vaccination and refugee health. A number of programs are partially funded with grants from the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) including HIV prevention, STD, hepatitis, TB and immunization. The Tuberculosis (TB) Program manages all persons with TB disease in the state and assists clinicians and health care providers to manage persons with latent TB infection (LTBI).

The Tuberculosis (TB) Program manages all persons with TB disease in the state and assists clinicians and health care providers to manage persons with latent TB infection (LTBI). The TB Nurse Program Manager oversees all aspects of program operation including managing a federal grant from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), overseeing the program budget, establishing protocols and best practices, providing training and support a team of expert nurse consultants in managing TB disease and LTBI cases alongside other health care entities.

How does it get done?

1) Manage a federal grant from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and comply with requirements for reporting TB disease cases and LTBI for surveillance purposes.
2) Oversee the program budget and contracts to support required activities including patient management, program incentives, travel and provision of directly observed therapy.
3) Establish protocols and best practices that incorporate national guidelines and research, provide training, and support a team of expert nurse consultants in managing TB disease and LTBI cases alongside other health care entities.
4) Provide consultation and technical expertise to public health staff, nurses and clinicians, and external providers as a TB subject matter expert.

Persons in New Mexico living with or at risk of TB disease or latent TB infection (LTBI).
Health care providers who serve patients with TB disease or LTBI.

Ideal Candidate

Bachelors in Nursing.
3 - 5 years of relevant experience in managing TB or other infectious diseases in a nursing role.
Expertise and/or training in core public health concepts such as epidemiology.

Minimum Qualification

Must possess a current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in New Mexico, or eligibility for such licensure in accordance with New Mexico requirements, or eligibility for a temporary license issued for employment at a specific institution in New Mexico and two (2) years of management experience as it pertains to the essential duties and responsibilities of the classification.

Employment Requirements

Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certification within six (6) months of date of hire as a condition of continued employment.

Working Conditions

Majority office setting (extensive personal computer and telephone usage with extended periods of sitting).

Occasional Driving 10-25% (Region/Statewide trainings; Regional nursing coverage, may include overnight travel to attend meetings and/or trainings that are required)
