Overview

The Plant Manager is a new role that will have a major impact on the overall operations at the Stone Straw plant in Brantford. This role oversees and manages all plant operations from coordination to overall production.

These duties include managing day-to-day operations, maintaining plant equipment, and developing strategies to efficiently, safely, and cost-effectively create optimal plant performance.

Details

  • Safety First! Support and identify initiative to be best in class on safety.
  • Ensure safety, quality and effectiveness of the all team members.
  • Overall leadership of Manufacturing/Operations.
  • Create a vision for the future and guide all functions through the steps to get there.
  • Policies and procedures to be supportive of this vision.
  • Prepare yearly budgets and present quarterly results at Business Council meetings.
  • Logistics.
  • Establish metrics for evaluation and challenge Status Quo.
  • Purchasing: work with team to negotiate with resin suppliers for Quality and Cost.
  • Lead new product certification.
  • Oversee all purchasing activities to identify opportunities or threats.
  • Audits, GMP, HACCP and overall quality systems.
  • Overall leadership in commitments and determine new targets for the KPIs.
  • Maintenance, identify and hire labour requirements.
  • Champion SRED activities.
  • Collaborate and support other functional teams.
  • Ensure Continuous Improvement in labour productivity (Direct & Indirect).
  • Management and control of all manufacturing operations.
  • Labour planning as per budget and manage headcount as needed.
  • Ensure flexibility operations on labour and equipment.
  • Assume all Product Engineering functions (BOM, Specs, labour and cost).
  • Coordinate the Crisis Management team for all product safety issues.
  • Participate in and lead policy and customer audits.


What we're looking for

  • Post-secondary diploma/degree or equivalent related experience.
  • 5+ years experience managing in manufacturing or processing, preferably in profile extrusion manufacturing.
  • Thorough knowledge of operations with emphasis on packaging and sanitation.
  • Experience successfully leading, coaching, motivating and developing a team in a "hands-on" environment.
  • Strong relationship-building skills. Able to deal with people sensitively, tactfully, confidentially, and professionally.
  • Planning and organizational skills with the ability to work under stress and manage time and resources effectively.
  • Excellent leadership skills and the ability to delegate.
  • Demonstrated ability to train, coach, evaluate, and improve others.
  • Ability to implement process improvement initiatives.
  • Strong decision-making and problem-solving skills.
  • In-depth knowledge of the industry and its place in the market.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Proven ability to direct and coordinate operations.
  • Excellent time management skills; appropriate sense of urgency.
  • Operational Control and improvement in a Plastic Manufacturing environment.


Also nice to have
  • Experience in Design Engineering, Product Engineering, Quality, Plant Management, Procurement & Maintenance
