Job Description
This position is open to State of Alaska Employees only.
The Department of Education and Early Development is recruiting for an Accountant 5 - Financial Officer
This position will work with our Administrative Services Team in Juneau.

What you will be doing:
This position serves as the Chief Financial Officer for the Department of Education & Early Development, and as such is responsible for oversight and control of finance and accounting services for all programs in the department. This position provides leadership and supervision to all accounting staff, this includes an Accountant III, Accounting Technician III and three Accounting Technician II's.

The position will help carry out the mission and vision by providing financial administrative support across the entire department, enabling staff to provide support to schools, district, student, and families statewide.

Our Juneau office is conveniently located in the state office building, downtown. The position can be assigned a cubical with ample light and has the option for teleworking after an initial training period, with the opportunity for flexible scheduling. The location is centrally located with plenty of parking, nearby restaurants, coffee shops.

  • Financial Systems: Knowledge of the standards, architecture, and specifications of automated financial systems, including source documents, system flows, system interfaces, and related internal controls.

  • Principles of Accounting: Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles, standards, and practices (for example, double entry accounting, accrual accounting), including the full accounting cycle and the preparation of work sheets, financial statements, ledgers, and journals.

  • Technical Credibility: Understands and appropriately applies principles, procedures, requirements, regulations, and policies related to specialized expertise.

Equivalent to those typically gained by:
Any combination of preparatory post-secondary education and/or progressively responsible professional level experience in accounting, budgeting, or financial management.
