Description
Job Summary: The Charge RN is responsible for the 24-hour operations of the Medical Surgical Department, which includes, but not limited to programmatic, operational and financial management functions. In accordance with the objectives and policies of the hospital, the Charge RN is responsible for assuring the nursing process is implemented effectively by evaluating the plan of care as well as the quality of care delivered by personnel assigned to that nursing unit. Leads the department in a manner which positively impacts the patient experience through staff training, accountability standards, and service excellence demonstrated in all interactions. Collaborates in the organization wide health-care delivery system and process design. Works collaboratively with physicians, and other department heads to assure compliance with professional and regulatory standards of care and practice. Actively participates as a part of St. James Hospital (SJH) nursing leadership.

Physical Demands
Ability to move or transfer patients. Should have a full range of body motion to successfully perform all essential functions on the job, meaning you'll have to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch and reach frequently during a 8 + hour shift. Accommodations are made for those with disabilities.

Ability to read, write and interpret documents in English such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Math Ability

- Designs, supports and leads a safe, therapeutic and efficient patient-centered care environment.
- Ensures level of care is in compliance with standards and federal/state regulations.
- Monitors patient care for quality based on external benchmarks.
- Maintains the nursing unit in compliance with all regulatory agency mandates, including the regulations of NYS DOH and The Joint Commission.
- Integrates the values of research and evidence-based practice and its application to nursing practice and the environment of care.
- Ensures patient/employee confidentiality is maintained.
- Follows up on all patient concerns in a timely manner and provides service recovery as needed.

- Implements changes for improvement that focuses on quality, customer satisfaction and optimal financial performance.
- Reviews and monitors through quality improvement processes, patient incident reports, actions taken and the resulting outcomes. Ensures that all deviations from standards have appropriate dispositions.
- Interacts with quality and risk management personnel, integrating quality improvement efforts in the Department of the hospital performance improvement initiatives.
Cost Effective Resource Management
- Assists the Director of Nursing with unit budgets, and helps respond to any budget variances with accurate data.
- Ensures effective and appropriate utilization of all available resources to assure quality, effective services.
- Makes recommendations to management regarding cost savings and profitability improvement strategies.

Requirements
Education & Experience
- Bachelors' of Science in Nursing from an accredited school of nursing.
- A minimum of three (3) years' experience as a RN.
- Current NYS RN License
- Current ACLS
