We are the largest Department in the Faculty of Medicine with over 1,200 faculty and staff. The Department is comprised of 18 divisions with faculty located throughout the Province of British Columbia. The Department of Medicine is committed to ensuring the success of our learners and faculty, and to contributing to the health of the Province of British Columbia.Reporting to the Head of the Department of Medicine, the successful candidate will be expected to lead educational and research activities in the Department, as well as provide mentorship and training to undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate learners. The successful candidate will be expected to split time equally between curriculum development and teaching deliverables and traditional scholarly activities. The successful candidate will be expected to lead, grow, and build research capacity in the area data of science and artificial intelligence within the Department of Medicine and Faculty of Medicine, furthering the initiatives and courses developed by the Data Science and Health (DASH) Research Cluster, https://datascienceandhealth.ubc.ca/, as well as develop artificial intelligence and health curriculum and teach course offerings.The successful candidate will hold a PhD in Computer Science, or a related field, with a focus on Data Science, Machine Learning, and Artificial Intelligence. The successful candidate will have training and experience in machine learning in healthcare, which may include data from electronic health records (natural language processing), medical imagining, administrative health care data mining, or modelling of drug mechanisms and discovery with the objective of transforming research to clinical care, positively impacting the delivery of healthcare and patient outcomes. The successful candidate will have demonstrated evidence of successful teaching and ability to direct graduate students; experience in curriculum development in artificial intelligence and health combined; have a growing body of productive scholarly activities including publishing in high profile journals and obtaining competitive grant funding; and must be willing to participate in academic and professional affairs of the Department and the University. The successful candidate will also have experience with deployment of tools with real world health care impact in addition to a demonstrated history of team building and collaboration. In addition, the successful candidate will demonstrate a willingness to respect diverse perspectives, including perspectives in conflict with one's own, and a commitment to enhancing one's own awareness, knowledge, and skills related to equity, diversity, and inclusion.The expected salary for this position is $170,000 per annum.
