About the Opportunity
The Senior Finance Manager, Nursery role is responsible for executing the key ongoing financial operations of the DOTA (Driscoll's of the Americas) Nursery. This includes leading the annual and quarterly financial forecasting cycles, executing month-end close and management reporting responsibilities, and engaging in long-term strategic planning with the Nursery Operations team. The Nursery Finance team also owns the plant unit costing process, which is the key financial and operational metric for the Nursery.
The Sr. Manager leads the Nursery Finance team, which has team members in the United States and Mexico. This team aligns with Nursery Operations to help deliver high-quality plants to our growers in a cost-efficient manner. This role is heavily connected to other important groups at Driscoll's - Product Leadership, Regional Production, and the R&D teams. The Sr. Manager needs to be a strong cross-functional collaborator and communicator.
Finally, this position will play an important role in helping drive an ongoing effort to modernize the Nursery, which has grown considerably in the last ten years. The Sr. Manager will help define and build the next generation of processes, platforms, and models that will help the Nursery execute more efficiently at greater scale over the next ten years.
Responsibilities
Financial Planning and Analysis:
Partners with Nursery Operations to develop Annual Operating Plan
Provides actionable financial analysis and insights to partners and leaders
Builds financial models that support and influence decision making
Unit Cost Modeling & Cost Management:
Comes with a strong cost accounting mindset. Owns the unit cost modeling process for the Nursery organization
Understands different cost types (direct, indirect, overhead) and drivers
Partners with Operations to track plant volumes through multi-year propagation cycles
Analyzes and drives cost reduction initiatives with the Operations team
Close & Management Reporting:
Leads month-end Close in partnership with Controllership
Performs variance analysis on key financial metrics (BvA, YoY, etc)
Responsible for updating Nursery Management Reporting deck with key content
Capital Planning and Management:
Owns the Nursery's annual Capital budget roll-up process
Oversees monthly Nursery Capital review with the Nursery Operations team
Conducts NPV analysis on discrete Capital Expenditure Requests (CERs)
Manages postmortem analysis of completed Capital projects post-execution
Platform Enhancements:
Helps design, build, and implement new Inventory Management & Costing system (Oracle Fusion)
Partners with Nursery Operations to modernize Nursery technical platforms
Shapes roadmap for improvements to supplemental technical platforms (ODOO, Payroll, etc)
Process Improvement Mindset:
Looks for opportunities to simplify, reduce waste, and remove low-value-add work
Assesses the effectiveness of actions taken and course-corrects if necessary
Strategic Leadership and Planning:
Partners with and influences the Nursery VP on strategic long-term initiatives
Conducts financial analysis on various strategic investments and initiatives
Helps communicate and reinforce the strategic objectives across the organization
Candidate Profile
Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration or equivalent - Required
MBA desirable but not required
8-10+ years of operations finance experience within an agricultural or agri-business company, preferably with Nursery operations
A strong cost accounting skillset
Unit Cost modeling and managerial costing
Planning processes - annual/quarterly operating planning, strategic initiatives, and ad-hoc analysis
Experience delivering timely management reporting and analysis
Microsoft Office- Advanced skills required
Oracle Fusion or other Nursery platforms a plus
Spanish language a plus
Valid Passport required
Domestic/International travel required up to 25%
3-5+ years' experience managing people
Strong oral and written communication skills
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize competing priorities
Compensation & Benefits:

Salary Range estimated for the Senior Finance Manager, Nursery: $126,000 to $173,000 USD.
