Controller
Position Summary:
Northwest Open Access Network ("NoaNet") is seeking an experienced Controller with 7+ years of finance and accounting experience to assist with growth in our company's accounting operations, ensure accounting accuracy, and provide strategic financial guidance. The ideal candidate will be a well-rounded, effective communicator capable of interacting with Board members, executives, and various stakeholders across multiple functional areas. Experience with telecommunications, broadband technology, and public utility districts is a plus.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Financial Management and Reporting:
- Oversee assigned aspects of financial management, including corporate accounting, budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting
- Support the implementation and maintenance of appropriate financial controls to ensure compliance with accepted accounting processes and legal requirements
- Manage assigned preparation and analysis of data inputs for financial statements, reports, and records
- Oversee assigned organization's daily accounting functions, which may include areas such as: payroll, accounts payable, and accounts receivable departments
2. Auditing and Compliance:
- Participate in internal and external audits, working closely with auditing firms to ensure accuracy in reporting
- Coordinate periodic closing processes and prepare supporting schedules for financial reviews and audits
- Ensure compliance with all state and local regulatory requirements
3. Strategic Planning and Collaboration:
- Work closely with senior management and the executive team to identify and address potential financial issues proactively
- Collaborate with the IT department to implement and maintain appropriate financial management technology systems
- Act as the primary liaison for external auditors during operational and financial audits
- Partner with teams on finance-related matters, recommending appropriate business pathways
- Work with the executive team to guide the organization's financial decisions
4. Team Leadership and Development:
- Provide mentoring of accounting team as may be needed to help ensure efficient execution of their functions
- Provide guidance and support to staff in complex accounting matters
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement and professional development within the finance department
5. Stakeholder Communication:
- Present assigned financial information and communicate with internal departments and other stakeholders, as necessary.
- Translate complex financial concepts into clear, actionable insights for non-financial audiences
- Communicate regularly with, and report to the CFO
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; Master's degree and/or CPA certification strongly preferred; or equivalent experience.
- Minimum of 7 years of senior-level finance and accounting experience, preferably in a similar industry
- Experience with telecommunications, broadband technology, and public utility districts is a plus
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 applications, with advanced Excel skills
- Expert knowledge of accounting principles, standards, and regulations
- Hands-on experience with financial management software (e.g., Oracle NetSuite ERP or equivalent)
- Strong background in overseeing annual audits and financial reporting
- Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills
- Outstanding organizational and time management abilities
- Meticulous attention to detail with a commitment to accuracy
- Excellent interpersonal skills, with proven ability to work in a multidisciplinary, diverse team environment
- Superior verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to explain complex financial concepts in simple terms
- Demonstrated integrity, credibility, and commitment to the company's mission
