Compensation: Salary and benefits per contract with the Superintendent of Schools

Department: Central Office

Work Year: Full year position, 261 days less vacation days and holidays

Start date: July 1, 2025
FLSA Status: Exempt

Hiring Timeline:

Job Goal: The Assistant Superintendent will partner with the Superintendent of Schools to provide leadership that fosters excellence across all aspects of the Westborough Public Schools with a primary focus on curriculum, instruction and assessment.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Education: Master's degree from an accredited college/university in a related field
  • Administrator licensure: Superintendent/Assistant Superintendent DESE licensure
  • Work Experience: Minimum of 5 years of teaching and/or school administrative experience, experience as a Principal/Assistant Principal strongly preferred
  • CORI and Fingerprinting: All appointments are conditional based on satisfactory CORI and SAFIS background checks per 603 CMR 51.00

REQUIRED SKILLS:
  • Design a cohesive plan for both general and special education students for K-12 curriculum, instruction and assessment
  • Apply knowledge of Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks, MCAS and Alternative Assessment practices
  • Collaborate and communicate effectively and sensitively with all stakeholders including staff, students, families, and Westborough School Committee
  • Promote an effective learning climate in the schools
  • Exercise decisive, inclusive and collaborative district leadership
  • Build effective relationships with staff, parents and community members
  • Implement and evaluate programs and make proposals for improvement
  • Demonstrate clear and concise written and oral communications skills with administration, staff and parents

CENTRAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB INCLUDE (but are not limited to):

A. Instruction
  • Coordinates the development, implementation and evaluation of the overall program of curriculum, instruction and assessment, and ensures compliance with district goals and state and federal standards
  • Works with the leadership team to maintain continuity and articulation of the instructional program, ensuring high quality core educational experiences that incorporate innovative learning models and successful outcomes every student
  • Keeps abreast of developments in curriculum and instruction and furnishes leadership in determining their appropriateness for inclusion in the district educational program
  • Works closely with principals, directors and coordinators to ensure the academic and social emotional needs of all students are met
  • Ensures effective use of data to address the learning needs of both high needs and traditionally underserved students, as well as students who are performing above grade-level
  • Works with general, English language learning, and special education teachers to develop collaborative and inclusive programs that serve all students
  • Works with the leadership team to plan, develop and implement local professional development activities, including summer curriculum projects. Develops annual district professional development calendar
  • Manages and approves professional development requests and budget

B. Data, Assessment and Outcomes
  • Oversees local, state, and national testing programs, including but not limited to DIBELS, MCAS, NAEP, ACCESS, etc.
  • Reviews and evaluations assessment data, including district-wide testing
  • Works with administrators and staff to develop a systematic approach to student progress by monitoring data collection to inform teaching and learning
  • Oversees the development and refinement of the District's Data Dashboards
  • Works with relevant stakeholders to set specific district improvement goals, aligned with strategic priorities, that support better learning outcomes

C. Personnel
  • Assists in the coordination of personnel functions, including the determination of staffing needs, hiring selection, and assignments
  • Oversees the development and refinement of the Frontline Professional Growth database which includes evaluations, course approvals, district professional development offerings, and staff portfolios containing their PDPs and course credits
  • Conducts investigations relating to professional staff misconduct and makes recommendations to the Superintendent
  • Acts as the District Title IX Coordinator
  • Interprets existing personnel policies and makes recommendations for necessary changes

D. Mentoring and Evaluation Programs
  • Manages and evaluates the New Teacher Mentor Program
  • Manages the professional staff evaluation program, Frontline's Professional Growth
  • Facilitates professional development for evaluators to further develop evaluation skills

E. General
  • Assists the Superintendent in directing the administration and coordination of the district's policies, procedures and programs.
  • Assists in the development of the budget, including the development, submission, implementation and monitoring of state, federal, and private grants as assigned that reflect the district's needs and goals
  • Serves as an educational thought leader by attending and presenting at local, regional and state conferences to both keep abreast of and deem appropriate the developments in curriculum, instruction, and regulations
  • Presents the district's educational program to the School Committee, parent groups and members of the community
  • Carries out any other duties that the Superintendent may specify

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Directly supervises District Curriculum Coordinators, Director of Fine and Performing Arts, English Language Learning Director and World Language Director

Compensation:

Salary and benefits are commensurate with experience and as determined by the Superintendent of Schools
