Vice President of Finance and Operations
As a key member of the executive leadership team, the Vice President of Finance will report directly to the CEO and play a central role in shaping the company's financial strategy and overseeing business operations. The VP will take ownership of corporate finance, including financial planning, modeling, and analysis, while managing all accounting and finance-related functions. This includes overseeing audits and collaborating with the Audit Committee to ensure compliance and accuracy. The VP will also be responsible for cash flow management, investment strategy, financial reporting, forecasting, and conducting deal and portfolio risk/return analysis. Additionally, the role will encompass risk management, internal controls, and various operational and administrative responsibilities to support the company's growth and financial stability.
Requirements
Responsibilities:
Actively contribute to the leadership team, helping to shape and drive the company's overall strategic direction.
Develop and maintain financial reports, dashboards, and KPIs for executive leadership and the Audit Committee.
Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive FP&A processes to improve clarity, consistency, and strategic alignment.
Ensure accurate financial reporting and compliance with GAAP, regulatory requirements, and internal controls.
Complete all required reporting for third party vendors.
Lead the development and execution of the company's financial strategy, including budgeting, forecasting, and long-term planning.
Take ownership of forecast model and lead all ad-hoc scenario analysis and financial modeling as needed by the business.
Monitor and analyze financial performance, identify trends, and provide actionable insights.
Own development of materials for management reviews, reporting, and board meetings.
Provide financial insights and strategic recommendations to leadership team and the board.
Oversee all financial operations including accounts payable, accounts receivable, treasury, and cash management.
Ensure timely and accurate completion of all tax filings and reporting obligations for the company and its investors.
Collaborate closely with operational teams (clinical, CMC) to ensure precise budget forecasting and ongoing financial tracking, while also supporting the preparation, documentation, and review of legal documents, including contracts and agreements.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in finance, Accounting, or a related field; CPA, and/or MBA preferred.
15+ years of progressive experience in finance or accounting.
Proven experience in a leadership position within a high-performing biotech company.
Experience in a small biotech/start-up or high-growth environment.
In-depth expertise in financial planning, analysis, and reporting, with a strong understanding of the unique operations and financial dynamics of small biotech companies.
Demonstrated experience overseeing the audit process and collaborating with audit committees to ensure compliance and accuracy.
Solid analytical and problem-solving abilities, with high attention to detail and organizational skills.
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
