Job Title: Electrical Power Substation Estimator
Location: Houston, TX

We are currently seeking an Electrical Power Substation Estimator with prior EPC experience to join a leading EPC firm in Houston. This role offers the opportunity to work on a diverse range of transmission, distribution, and substation electrical construction projects. The ideal candidate will be responsible for estimating labor, equipment, materials, and subcontractor costs to support EPC and GC project bids, with a primary goal of tracking, bidding, and securing profitable work.

Key Responsibilities:

• Identify and analyze cost factors, including production time, materials, and labor expenses.
  
  
• Conduct site visits to assess materials, labor, and other project requirements.
  
  
• Interpret blueprints and technical documents to develop accurate estimates.
  
  
• Collaborate with engineers, project managers, procurement teams, and subcontractors to establish constructability plans and cost evaluations.
  
  
• Consult with industry experts and management to resolve estimate-related challenges.
  
  
• Utilize Excel and Bluebeam software to perform detailed cost calculations.
  
  
• Assess and recommend methods to improve project cost-effectiveness and profitability.
  
  
• Develop and submit competitive bids and estimates for potential projects.
  
  
• Create and manage project plans to ensure execution aligns with estimated costs.
  
  
• Ensure compliance with contract requirements throughout the estimation process.
  
  
• Prepare detailed takeoffs and work closely with project teams to obtain competitive subcontractor proposals.
  
  
• Compare budgeted versus actual performance and implement corrective actions when necessary.
  
  
• Assist in drafting work scopes and reviewing contract change orders.
  
  
• Review, estimate, and negotiate multiple project change orders as needed.
  
  
• Ensure all required documentation is submitted in a timely and compliant manner.
  
  
• Perform other duties as assigned to support project success.

Experience & Education Requirements:

• Prior experience in the utilities or construction industry is highly preferred.
  
  
• Bachelor's degree in Civil or Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
  
  
• 5+ years of experience in medium and high voltage electrical substation and transmission construction.
  
  
• Ability to read, interpret, and analyze electrical construction drawings and specifications.
  
  
• Strong understanding of industry standards, market trends, and construction practices.
  
  
• Proficiency in Microsoft Suite (Excel & Word).
  
  
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  
  
• Strong critical thinking, organizational, and multitasking abilities.
  
  
• Proven ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in parallel.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience in medium and high voltage electrical construction.
  
  
• Expertise in estimating EPC (Engineer, Procure, Construct) projects.
  
  
• Knowledge of substation, distribution, and transmission line construction estimating.
  
  
• Familiarity with civil and electrical substation construction methodologies.
