Job Description
The Commercial Business is a dynamic, fast-paced, multi-billion-dollar Business Unit that delivers Notebooks, Desktops, Thin Clients, All-in-Ones, Dockings and Display solutions to our Enterprise and SMB customers; The Consumer Business Unit delivers Notebooks, Desktops through our Retail partners and on-line partners across the world. The Director of Product Cost Management will lead a critical function responsible to drive E2E Product Cost Management through the Product Development Cycle (PLC) from incubation to sustaining phase, ensuring products are delivered with improved cost structure gen over gen. This individual will collaborate extensively with the Consumer and Commercial Staffs, influencing the strategic direction of the business.

Travel: This role will require 25% travel.
Compensation: The base pay range for this role is $159,650 to $255,450 annually with additional opportunities for pay in the form of bonus and equity (applies to US candidates only). Pay varies by work location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.

Job Description

The Director of Product Cost Management will lead a critical function responsible to drive E2E Product Cost Management through the Product Development Cycle (PLC) from incubation to sustaining phase, ensuring products are delivered with improved cost structure gen over gen. This individual will collaborate extensively with the Consumer and Commercial Staffs, influencing the strategic direction of the business.
Key responsibilities
- Lead the Bill of Design / Turnaround Product Cost plan, in collaboration with the transformation office, to ensure that we deliver on the Commercial and Consumer targets for Base Unit - through product redesign and collaborating with Procurement, Category on the Bill of Process and Bill of Material programs.
- Product Cost E2E management (CPS, BPS, ACS MWS, Displays & Docking, RPOS)
- Cost Projection (base unit, CPU, OS, commodities, etc) including targets, gen over gen bridges, YoY view, through the PLC (from MRR to sustaining). Collaborate with all functions (SM, R&D, Planning, Procurement) to achieve targets.
- Influence RFQ process / ODM strategy to drive gen over gen structural cost improvements.
- Build up Product Cost E2E for LTP / Budget, collaborate with Strategy & Finance to upload data into the financial reporting systems.
- Manage Cost Configuration tool, to provide quick simulation cost views and facilitate product definition decisions (Marketing and CO).
- Accuracy check of the information uploaded in iCost tool, collaborating with SC and CO.
- Influence E2E Cost improvement plans with Alliances, Logistics, CO and CS teams. Identify strategic structural cost reduction opportunities, track progress towards goals (i.e. expanding AVL list for better pricing)
- Enable Big Deals (cost/funding) in collaboration with CO, Marketing, Alliances.
- Drive further investment opportunities with strategic partners, in collaboration with the System Team, Planning and Alliances.
- Drive negotiation for Commercial on BU funding allocation guidance (pan-PS forums).
- Lead the Cost Recovery process:
- Define pipeline / funnel of opportunities (based on quality issues, customer escalations, etc).
- Engage with CS finance during budget / flash to track numbers.
- Case Evaluation: engage with appropriate functions (Legal, CS, Quality, Finance..) to sustain supplier liability and potential financial impact to HP.
- Execute claim management with Supply Chain, Legal. Align negotiation process, amount to be recovered with them.
- As People Manager, define the talent / roles required for the function. Assign performance objectives, track execution and manage end of year review process. Take actions to beat goal of 80% on Employee Engagement Index, define and execute solid improvement plans based on VIA feedback. Foster people development and growth, rotation, career growth, diversity and inclusion. Manage people recognition programs and tools to foster engagement.
- Drive the team transformation to agile process, data-driven decisions, automation and digitization of processes.
Education and Experience Required
- Engineering Degree
- 10+ years of experience in GBU roles related to Finance, System Management, Procurement, Planning
- 10+ years of management experience leading international team.
Knowledge and Skills
- Finance processes (Budget, LTP...), P&L, accounting, NRE, Opex / CapEx, etc
- E2E Product Cost, key categories, PS cost model,
- ODM management, creating strong partnerships
