Perceived Quality Engineer

Craftsmanship is the perception of quality that a customer has about a product, derived through sight, touch, sound, and scent. The Tesla Craftsmanship team is responsible for ensuring our consumer vehicles, commercial vehicles, energy and robot products are utterly compelling in the store and provide a faultless experience during use.
The Craftsmanship team collaborates cross-functionally to influence products at conception, transforming vision into actionable and measurable targets while resolving craftsmanship, engineering, and manufacturing hurdles preemptively. We are a small group of product designers and mechanical engineers with a passion for innovation, attention-to-detail, and user-centric design. Responsibilities

• Own Craftsmanship attribute deliverables for defined vehicle systems or area
• Develop gap and flush control documents from target creation to process delivery alignment
• Develop Craftsmanship sensory targets that deliver a world-class user experience, beyond gap and flush conditions
• Represent the Craftsmanship attribute at all relevant meetings, influence the team to take the Craftsmanship approach in all trade-off discussions
• Drive closure of Craftsmanship issues through negotiation using quantitative data. Influence the design by developing constructive alternative solutions
• Develop testing methods to ensure all targets are validated
• Support the craftsmanship deliverables through to development/engineering sign-off of the vehicle
• Support the quality functions to ensure targets are appropriately understood and measurable

Requirements

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design, or equivalent experience
• Strong mechanical engineering fundamentals and a first-principals approach
• Highly collaborative, detail-oriented personality and excellent communication skills
• Understanding of the factors that create a perception of exceptional quality
• Understanding of dimensional variation and statistical analysis
• Prior experience in a similar role is valued, but the team has openings from entry-level to expert
• Demonstration of knowledge in a variety of production and prototype manufacturing methods
• Desire to become expert in Craftsmanship and build a career within the field

Expected Compensation

$92,720 - $305,400/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits

Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered.
