Job Purpose Summary:
The Superintendent of Operations is a member of the Operations Team reporting directly to the Plant Manager. The Superintendent of Operations is accountable and responsible for plant operations - oil seed processing, refining, material handling/tracking, safety, personnel development/training and the overall efforts of the production processes. This position is directly responsible for meeting/exceeding established production standards through efficient management of resources, while ensuring product quality requirements.

Job Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
Lead supervisors, operators and sanitation personnel in daily work efforts
Be familiar with, or gain the knowledge of oil seed processing, refining, and quality testing
Monitor operations for potential safety and food safety hazards on a daily basis
Ensure all personnel training is completed, including qualifications, safety training and specialized training
Oversee the completion of required quality reports, ensuring timeliness and accuracy
Make measured decisions concerning operations, considering safety, quality and efficiencies.
Participate in daily production planning meetings, offering solutions to any production constraints
Communicate with operators, any hour, during emergency situations
Review production trends, tracking all orders reflecting yields, consumption of materials and through-put
Determine root cause analysis concerning production inefficiencies and line down-time
Participate in, and prepare for all audits, ensuring all areas are audit-ready at all times
Ensure operations are performed in accordance with approved procedures and company policy
Verify lock out/tag out, fall protection, and confined space entry rules and policies are followed
Create, read and follow Standard Operating Procedures (S.O.P.s) and forms, ensuring all are up to date
Oversight of all processing aids ordering, to prevent an out of stock situation
Oversight of personnel scheduling
Oversight of commodity movement planning and communication
Authorize/complete work permits
Document all accidents, incidents and near misses to the Plant Manager and Adams Group Safety Manager
Maintain a positive and professional atmosphere for all employees and visitors
Other duties as directed or required.
Qualifications
Qualifications:
8-10 years operations management in the food, beverage, dairy or oil seed industry
Prior certification in HACCP, HARPC, SQF, BRC, ISO 22000 preferred
Experience with ERP systems
Excellent computer skills - All Microsoft Suite formats
Position Requirements:
Sound knowledge and demonstrable success of providing leadership
Highly motivated and self-directed with exceptional communication skills - verbal and written
Have the ability to climb stairs and ladders
Able to work in all weather conditions
Able to lift up to 50 pounds on a regular basis
Must be willing and able to work extended hours as necessary
Must be willing and able to take calls off shift
