In addition, this position provides direct confidential clinical services to students and supervises all staff within the Counseling Center. This position also acts as the overall mental health consultant to the University. Essential Duties
- Provide leadership to the staff in the Counseling Center as well as to the University regarding a wide range of mental health concerns including but not limited to crisis management, depression, anxiety, family and relationship issues, psychosis, substance use and conflict management.
- Recruit and train all staff and interns in the Counseling Center.
- Conduct employment and performance appraisal for all staff; this includes the Associate Director and Director of Training and Operations, Assistant Director, 3 clinicians, 3 student interns, 1 contracted psychiatric Nurse Practitioner, and 1 Administrative Assistant.
- Monitor staffing on an ongoing basis to assess its ability to meet the needs of the population served and make decisions regarding staff additions and restructurings as appropriate.
- Oversee the mental health caseload of all of the clinicians and psychological crises for Bentley students. Manage the effect of such crises on the community at large and work with other departments on campus to assist with communication and planning regarding the crises.
- Collaborate with other departments throughout Student Affairs in a collective approach to wellbeing. This includes the organization and execution of mental health screenings for all athletes and the development of initiatives to support this population from the data gathered.
- Maintain a caseload of students by providing a wide range of confidential services, including individual and group counseling and psychotherapy, and clinical consultation.
- Provide consultation, accept referrals as needed, and refer to off-campus resources and/or facilities as indicated.
- Work closely with hospitals when a student is admitted to a psychiatric inpatient unit.
- Continue to develop and implement the clinical model within the counseling center and constantly appraise the efficiency and impact on the University and students' ability to access services in a timely manner.
- Maintain and update Titanium (EMR system) and create and modify new data forms when additional data is needed.
- Engage in consistent review of counseling center data regarding efficiency, demographic statistics, clinical presentations, percentage of risk and use of services. Stays up to date on Massachusetts licensing laws and associated mental health changes within the state and country with legal implications. Act as the mental health consultant to the University, both in regard to student presentations as well as overall trends in college mental health.
- Maintain a system for the assessment and follow up of at-risk students and engage in consistent communication, while considering confidentiality, to other impacted departments, staff and faculty across campus.
- Maintain a system for post-hospital care as indicated to create a safe environment for both the student and the campus.
- Oversee planning and implementation of outreach events across campus involving student mental health.
- Participate as a member of the CARE, Emergency Management and Threat Assessment teams and act as mental health consultant where appropriate. Be available to respond to life-threatening emotional situations and crises with individual students at any time.
- Manage and participate in the on-call system to plan for availability of consultation off hours as needed; act as the backup for on-call services 24/7.
- Develop, implement, and assess specific projects and programs as delegated by the Associate Dean, Assistant Vice President, or Vice President.
- Engage in regular collaboration with Director and Associate Director of Health Center regarding shared clients, trends and staff trainings.
- Collaborates with Associate Director of Programming and Communications regarding mental health trends on campus and wellbeing programs.
- Participate in biweekly Director's meetings and assist with policies and procedures within student affairs, including but not limited to diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging.
- Responsible for marketing and promoting counseling center services to the community.
- Develop and manage a budget of over $350k to ensure appropriate funding and cost-conscious budget management.
- Develop a strategy and execute community outreach initiatives that enhance the promotion and education on student mental health and wellbeing
Other Duties
- Maintain policies, procedures and staffing to comply with accreditation standards. Act as the main point of contact for accreditation and complete annual accreditation updates as well as lead the re-accreditation processes.
- Participate in national and regional professional organizations and conferences and maintain contact with local counseling programs to benchmark quality and types of services.
- Participate on associated committees related to campus mental health, the JED foundation and Sexual Assault and Response. Represent the Counseling Center on other committees and task forces in working to increase mental health and development of students across campus through policy change, publications, programs and general environmental improvement.
- Participate in the development of assessments related to mental health across the University. Review associated data, as well as data from larger communities related to mental health trends and services.
Minimum Qualifications
- Master's degree or doctoral degree in psychology, social work or counseling plus 5-7 years of experience in the mental health field.
- 3 years of managerial experience, and experience in or commitment to, an integrative health care model.
- Experience in college health or with adolescent/young adult population.
- Commitment to diversity.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills.
Work Environment
- Office is main work environment, with meetings at various offices or other meeting rooms throughout campus. Working directly with students and or other campus authorities.
