JOB DESCRIPTION:
To represent the District's policies to the community and provide prevention programs program to staff and community. Coordinate and implement mental health initiatives and support school counselors with developing and implementing a comprehensive school counseling program.
DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:Work in collaboration with other District departments to support campus staff, students, and families. Collaborate with other District departments to coordinate and support implementation of mental health initiatives and connect to PBIS at the District level. Act in a consultation and advisory capacity to school counselors, principals, and teachers in the areas of guidance and counseling, mental health initiatives, and trauma-informed practices. Assist in the planning, implementing and conducting of professional learning for staff, parents and community. Work with appropriate staff to ensure a high degree of uniformity among elementary and secondary schools using the Texas Model for Comprehensive School Counseling Programs. Assist with the mentoring program for elementary and intermediate school counselors. Provide leadership in improving the guidance and counseling programs in the schools. Assist in improvement of the guidance and counseling programs through observation, visitation, demonstration, and school counselor professional learning. Provide professional learning for school counselors in improving guidance and counseling techniques and in using materials. Provide mental health resources related to the following: Individual counseling, Small group counseling, Classroom presentations, Parent groups and presentations, Family consultations, Staff training, and consultations Work closely with school administrators, school counselors, teachers, and staff in developing strategies to address issues surrounding unhealthy behaviors. Work closely with the Coordinator of Guidance and Counseling in order to meet the needs of all students. Maintain a confidential rapport with students and their families regarding personal information. Communicate goals and objectives pertaining to a student's status to appropriate school staff, law enforcement and social agencies. Act as a liaison between the school District, public mental health agencies, law enforcement agencies, family members, students, juvenile justice officials and other agencies. Participate in appropriate conferences and staff development sessions for improved job performance. Act as a resource person and be available at any time in the event of a crisis in the District. Assist the District and campuses with the implementation of safe schools plans for students and staff. Adhere to professional ethics and standards of a professional counselor and serve as a positive representative of the District. Keep accurate travel records. Maintain regular attendance. Maintain confidentiality of information. Other duties as assigned. EXPERIENCE:

- Counseling with children and families
Education/Certification:
- Master's Degree in counseling
- Texas School Counselor Certification s
- Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC)
Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Knowledgeable about community resources and social agencies
- Knowledgeable about laws dealing with children and adolescents
- Knowledgeable of Texas School Mental Health initiatives
- Knowledgeable of Positive Behavior Interventions & Supports (PBIS) best practices
- Knowledgeable about Trauma-Informed Practices
