The Opportunity

Green and Spiegel is seeking a Senior Director, Finance who exemplifies an entrepreneurial spirit with demonstrated exceptional analytical, strategic planning/thinking and communication skills. This position reports to the Chief Operating Officer and the Partners of the firm.

The Senior Director, Finance is responsible for the oversight of the firm's financial systems for multiple offices including financial reporting, projections as well as managing the overall financial risks of the firm. A key part of the role will be to deliver and execute the Firm's strategic plan and all associated initiatives with meticulous attention to detail and a results-oriented focus. This would include having financial accuracy and control, prioritizing systems and processes and delivering business insights that affect firm strategy.

The successful candidate has experience implementing new and upgraded technologies and is always on the lookout for process improvement.

What You'll Do
  • Provide strategic management and oversight of the accounting and finance function and systems including but not limited to: overseeing the application of appropriate accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls for accurate financial reporting and financial systems implementations, maintenance, and upgrades.
  • Prepare, analyze and monitor financial forecasts and make strategic recommendations to senior executive team.
  • Regularly analyze business revenues to identify trends and opportunities.
  • Ensure that WIP and aged Receivables are maintained at an acceptable level and make recommendations, where appropriate.
  • Develop financial metrics and dashboards to provide financial information to leaders in Canada and the US.
  • Manage bank relationships. Oversee cash, investments, and asset management and assist in determining timing and amounts for partnership distributions.
  • Management of day-to-day accounting and finance functions including payroll.
  • Manage, develop and direct the team providing supervision and coaching of employees to encourage individual and organizational success.
  • Manage or oversee the relationship with independent accountants including the annual year-end accounting process for Canadian and US operations as well as various Family Trusts and property management company.
  • Serve as a key point of contact for external auditors; manage preparation and support of all year-end reporting as well as all tax filings in US and Canada.

Skills and Qualifications:
  • Minimum of 8 to 12 years' experience in accounting or finance including a minimum of five years in a management role. Candidates should have held positions of increasing responsibility within an accounting department such as Director of Finance, Director of Accounting, or Controller.
  • Must be a Canadian Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) in good standing.
  • Experience in a professional services environment such as engineering, law or accounting will be considered a strong asset.
  • Business savy, proactive and fiscally responsible.
  • Exceptional strategic thinking skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent Microsoft Office skills.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving skills and decision-making skills.
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills; able to communicate and sell concepts.
  • High level of integrity and strong attention to detail and organizational abilities.
