POSITION SUMMARY
This is a full-time position within the Department of Internal Medicine, combining clinical hospitalist duties with teaching responsibilities. We are seeking a physician who thrives in an inpatient setting and enjoys working with residents and medical students. This position is ideal for a physician who enjoys inpatient medicine, values teaching, and thrives in a collaborative academic hospital setting. You will have the opportunity to shape the next generation of internal medicine physicians while maintaining a balanced schedule with structured time off.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The physician will primarily serve as a hospitalist at Chestnut Hill Hospital while also engaging in medical education and limited outpatient care. Key responsibilities include:
Hospitalist Role:
Inpatient Internal Medicine rounds at Chestnut Hill Hospital
7-day-on/7-day-off schedule (Monday-Sunday), covering approximately 26-27 weeks per year
Night, weekend, and holiday call shared with the physician team
Coordination with outpatient colleagues for continuity of care
Teaching & Mentorship:
Supervise and educate Internal Medicine residents and medical students during hospital rounds
Lead morning report conferences and noon lectures at Chestnut Hill Hospital
Serve on the Resident Clinical Competency Committee and Program Evaluation Committee
Deliver lectures and participate in PCOM's medical student mentoring program
Engage in scholarly activities, including core curriculum lectures and continuing medical education (CME)
Administrative & Institutional Engagement:
Maintain timely and accurate charting, billing, and documentation
Participate in PCOM committees and educational initiatives
Supervisory responsibilities:
Reports to the Chair of the Department of Internal Medicine
Supervises medical students and residents in the hospital setting
May contribute to lectures and small-group teaching
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Education
Must have a DO or MD degree with completion of an accredited Internal Medicine residency.
Experience
Prior residency or practice experience in clinical primary care required
Teaching experience with medical students and residents preferred
Certifications, Licenses, Registrations
Board-certified or board eligible in Internal Medicine
Active Pennsylvania medical license (MD/DO) with no restrictions
DEA license with no restrictions
Malpractice insurance with tail coverage provided
Physical Demands
Must be ambulatory and able to stand for extended periods
Primarily hospital-based, with occasional outpatient responsibilities
Availability for day, evening, and weekend shifts as part of the shared call schedule
