Expert On Alert On-Site Technical Specialist - Homewood, IL (CN Account)

Who will you be working with?

Reporting to the Expert on Alert (EOA) On-Site Customer Team Manager, and as part of dispersed team of 10+ advanced technical experts - this role works on-site and closely with CN Mechanical leadership and the CN Diesel Doctors to assist in troubleshooting Wabtec locomotives utilizing the Expert on Alert platform.

How will you make a difference?

The Expert On Alert (EOA) on-site Technical Specialist is overall responsible for the day-to-day operational/technical tasks supporting the CN account, including monitoring and documenting the execution of Remote Monitoring and Diagnostics, repair recommendations, and creating/maintaining all daily/weekly/monthly scorecards and process/procedural documents.

A large part of this role will also be maintaining good working internal and external relationships with Wabtec and CN field and management teams.

What will your typical day look like?
  • Monitoring and reporting on daily failure/interruptions to CN mechanical stakeholders. These reports will include relevant history including parts, RXs, work orders, faults, FMI, call logs, TRX executions and other pertinent information creating a robust story that can be learned from and impact positive change for CN.
  • Providing technical guidance to CN Diesel Doctors, reliability specialists, operations and field teams while keeping safety in the forefront.
  • Managing daily operations of the Expert On Alert platform at CN including all scorecards, training documents and communication subsystems.
  • Provide CN mechanical and Wabtec service account team members insights into RX impact including RX effectiveness (repair effectiveness), RX re-issue, RX NTF, RX expected operating time and other key performance indicators as identified that will lead to meaningful change for the CN customer.
  • Support Prognostics & preventative failure process to limit over the road failures.
  • Act as the primary liaison between business owners and technical team.
  • Data collection and reporting as required, supporting customer needs.
  • Provide leadership and project level management in the planning, evaluation, design, development, implementation, operation and control of IT solutions
  • Act as an E.O.A Subject Matter Expert (SME) and provide assistance and training to customer on platform use including owning the customer experience by being part of the "front line" providing leadership to expedite daily operational customer satisfaction
  • Work with internal Wabtec field teams to provide notice of locomotive conditions to various stakeholders, shops, warranty managers, fleet program managers etc.
  • Supporting projects for Wabtec and the customer
  • Work as a business partner with business leaders and users to evaluate/improve business processes and arrive at mutual, cost effective solutions
  • Prepare and present project plans, status reports to key internal / external stakeholders
  • Assist with testing and piloting NPI's
  • All other job duties as assigned and required


What do we want to know about you?
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college
    • OR a high school diploma/GED with at least 4 years of experience in a support or field engineering role
  • Willingness to work various shifts on various days including weekends and holidays / on-call. This includes night shift coverage.
  • Expertise with Wabtec AC/DC EVO, Tier4, Dash 8, Dash 9 locomotive platforms - including the understanding of how the various subsystems work and how to troubleshoot them.
  • Wabtec Level 1 or above TA/TD certification
  • Experience with RM&D repair recommendations (RX's)
  • Knowledge of field operations and limitations using railroads GOI
  • Knowledge of all locomotive subsystems, engine, traction, cooling, electric, etc.
  • Confident speaker, who maintains a professional demeanor when clearly and concisely articulating troubleshooting or locomotive next steps
  • Strong MS Office skills including advanced MS Excel knowledge and skills
  • Knowledge in materials management, operations, inventory control and logistics
  • Limited travel to support specific business or customer needs
  • Ability to manage multiple, conflicting priorities
  • Strong analytical skills and problem solving capabilities
  • Experience in a field site, shop or manufacturing environment is preferred
  • Proactive, driving personality - dedicated to serving the customer
  • Independent worker focused on timely execution
  • Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt Certified
  • Knowledge of Wabtec Services business and operations
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, presenting and organizational skills
  • Sound business acumen and proven leadership skills
  • Capable of making decisions facing limited or conflicting data
  • Demonstrated cross-functional influencing skills
  • General Rail industry knowledge and experience
