The Department of Workforce Development, Worker's Compensation Division is seeking a Bureau of Insurance Programs Director.

This position is located in downtown Madison, Wisconsin and is eligible to work remotely up to 4 days per week after an initial training period.

Position Summary

  • The Bureau of Insurance Programs Director has the following duties:
  • Oversee day-to-day operations of the Bureau of Insurance Programs
  • Administer programs of the bureau, including uninsured employee benefits program, divided insurance, partial insurance, owner-controlled insurance (wrap-up), and self-insurance programs
  • Serve on the Worker's Compensation Division's management team
  • Serve as the division's liaison with the Office of the Commissioner of Insurance and the Wisconsin Compensation Rating Bureau
  • Supervise the Bureau of Insurance Programs Section Chief and staff

Salary Information

Starting salary is between $107,100 and $115,872 per year depending on qualifications and experience, plus excellent benefits. For more benefits information, view our benefits overview .

The classification title for this position is DWD Manger (schedule 81, range 01). A two-year Career Executive trial period will be required. This position is not represented in a collective bargaining unit and is exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act.

Pay will be set in accordance with the State Compensation Plan in effect at the time of appointment. Starting pay may vary for current state employees.

Job Details

Remote Work: Remote and hybrid-remote work is intended to be performed primarily in Wisconsin. High speed internet access is required to meet the needs of remote work. Remote work is subject to change based on business needs.

Criminal histories: W e also consider all qualified applicants with criminal histories, consistent with applicable federal, state and local law. Finalists for this position may be required to allow DWD to conduct a background check or other checks to determine whether the circumstances of any conviction may be related to the job being filled.

Eligibility to work in United States: Applicants must be legally entitled to work in the United States (i.e., a US citizen or national or a lawful permanent resident) at the time of appointment. DWD does not sponsor visas and is not an eligible OPT employer for those with F1 visas. This is not a contract position. Any appointment made will be contingent on the applicant being able to prove valid status to work in the United States .

Qualifications

You will need to have experience in:
  • *Monitoring and managing program operations and resources, including supervising ( e.g., hiring, evaluating, developing, disciplining, etc.) staff.
  • *Analyzing and summarizing complex information (e.g., legislation, policies, data) and communicating information to non-technical customers
  • * Developing and/or evaluating customer service or performance metrics
  • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with a wide variety of internal and external groups
It would be nice to have experience in any of the following:
  • *Working in a worker's compensation or insurance environment
  • *Coordinating activities across teams and functional areas
  • Leading or participating in technology process improvement (e.g., web-based portal, electronic data exchange, etc.)
