Description:

Under general direction, provides prescribed medications andpharmaceutical products for adequate patient care according to professionalstandards and practices. Advises/consults with medical staff, other healthprofessionals, patients and families on pharmaceutical and patient care issues.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
  • Prepares medications by reviewing and interpretingphysician orders; detecting therapeutic incompatibilities.
  • Dispenses medications by compounding, packaging, andlabeling pharmaceuticals.
  • Controls medications by monitoring drug therapies;advising interventions.
  • Completes pharmacy operational requirements byorganizing and directing technicians' work flow; verifying their preparationand labeling of pharmaceuticals; verifying order entries, charges, andinspections.
  • Provides pharmacological information by answeringquestions and requests of health care professionals; counseling patients ondrug therapies.
  • Develops hospital staff's pharmacological knowledge byparticipating in clinical programs; training pharmacy staff, students, interns,externs, residents, and health care professionals.
  • Complies with state and federal drug laws as regulatedby the state board of pharmacy, the drug enforcement administration, and thefood and drug administration by monitoring nursing unit inspections;maintaining records for controlled substances; removing outdated and damageddrugs from the pharmacy inventory; supervising the work results of supportpersonnel; maintaining current registration; studying existing and newlegislation; anticipating legislation; advising management on needed actions.
  • Protects patients and technicians by adhering toinfection-control protocols and related procedures, rules, and regulations.
  • Maintains pharmacological knowledge by attendingeducational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishingpersonal networks; participating in professional societies.
  • Performsother related duties as required and directed.


  • Qualifications:

    Required:

    • Graduate of an accredited school of pharmacy with BS Pharm or PharmD Degree.


      • Completion of pharmacy internship and holds state licensure.


    Preferred:

    • One year of Oncology related pharmacy experience.
