Chief Purpose of this position: The Department of PM&R at VCU Healthwelcomes candidates to apply to this exciting new opportunity for a PM&Rphysician specializing in brain injury medicine. This position isresponsible for direct patient care, with opportunities to be involved inteaching, research, and service. A Physician Practice Group compensation planprovides an opportunity for a competitive, market-based salary. The positionwill be offered at an academic rank commensurate with qualifications.
Position Responsibilities:
TeachingAssistin the supervision of residents, fellows, and other learners in theenvironment.
Participatein the orientation of each group of house staff and students to theRehabilitation program.
Assistin establishing the core curriculum including a list of reading material forhouse staff and students.
Assistin the evaluation of the house staff and students assigned to the facilitiesafter each rotation.
ResearchThoughnot a primary function of this job, participate as needed/interested inresearch activities as well as supporting ongoing and new projects asappropriate in the context of clinical care.
ServiceParticipatein university and department committees as requested.
Contributeto the field of Physiatry overall through professional organizations.
ClinicalPrimary clinical responsibility is brain injurymedicine.
Support established multi-specialty clinics in generalPM&R diagnosis including, but not limited to, acquired and traumatic braininjury.
Responsible for the proper management and quality ofservice in the provision of care.
Provide consults upon referral from medicalfacilities with formal coordinated relationships with the Department.
Prepare periodic reports pertaining to the care ofpatients to the Division Chair.
Ensure that medical services are documented andsigned consistent with VCUHS and payer policies and guidelines.
Assist in the establishment of referral sources for VCUMedical Center and Sheltering Arms Institute.
Assist the billing professionals in the preparationof appropriate charges for the medical services rendered and in the review ofnon-reimbursed billings.
Other Responsibilities
Represent the Department in official meetings asrequested.
Attend scheduled GrandRounds, staff conferences and lectures upon occasion as requested.
Maintain practice credentials and completion ofeducation as required by hospital, university, and state practice organization.

Required Qualifications:
- Medical Degree (MD or DO)
- Board certification inPhysical Medicine & Rehabilitation and Brain Injury Medicine
- Academic andclinical credentials that demonstrate ability to establish new clinicalinitiatives
- Effective oral and written communication
- Leadershipskills
- Ability to work well with peoplein a team environment
- Demonstratedexperience working in and fostering an environment of respect, professionalismand civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from variousbackgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU
