Position Information
Under general direction, manages, plans, and coordinates assigned programs within Washoe County Juvenile Services; and performs related duties as assigned.
This is a Department Promotional only recruitment being conducted to fill a current full-time vacancy in the Juvenile Services Department. The list established from this recruitment may be used to fill future vacancies as they occur.

Candidates meeting the POST and PERS requirements will be placed in job classification 60015500 (ER) with the salary range of $101,982.40 - $132,579.20
Candidates without the POST and PERS requirements will be placed in job classification 60013704 (RR) with the salary range of $110,947.20 - $144,248.00.

Minimum Qualifications
Three years of full-time experience with Washoe County Juvenile Services in a classification equivalent to, or higher than, a probation officer; OR three years of full-time professional experience in a juvenile justice casework or correctional program AND a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in behavioral sciences, criminal justice, human services, social work, or a closely related field.

License Or Certificate
  • May require a current and valid Nevada Commission on Peace Officers Standards and Training (POST) Basic Category I or II Certificate at the time of appointment and if required, must maintain POST requirements per NRS/NAC 289 for continued employment in this classification or provide verification of current enrollment in a Nevada POST Basic Category I or II Academy at the time of application.
  • A valid Class C driver's license is required at the time of appointment and must be maintained for continued employment in this classification.
  • CPR/First Aid and Blood Borne Pathogens certificates are required at the time of appointment and must be maintained for continued employment in this classification.

Conditions of Employment
Juvenile Services falls under the direction of the District Court, and as such, Juvenile Services is not part of Washoe County's merit personnel system, and Juvenile Services employees are not members of a bargaining unit. However, full-time or part-time permanent employment with the Department of Juvenile Services offers the same attractive benefit package and salary schedule as any other Washoe County Department.
Washoe County requires its employees to reside in the state of Nevada or neighboring California communities such as Truckee, South Lake Tahoe or Susanville as of their first day of work.
Washoe County hires all new employees at the minimum rate of the salary range and eligible employees may receive an annual merit increase of 5% until they reach the maximum salary for the classification. Upon promotion, current Washoe County employees are placed at the minimum rate of the salary range for the higher classification of the new position OR a promotional calculation, whichever is greater.
