Qualifications:Hold a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Criminal Justice or related field;
  • Have a minimum of 10 years of law enforcement experience;
  • Be able to work with police and safety personnel as well as school district staff;
  • Ability to make presentations before community groups and school staff;
  • Hold and maintain a New Jersey Driver's License;
  • Have excellent integrity and demonstrate good moral character and initiative;
  • Exhibit a personality that demonstrates interpersonal skills to relate well with students, staff, administration, parents and the community;
  • Maintain integrity of confidential information relating to students, staff or district patrons;
  • Demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing, using proper grammar and vocabulary;
  • Applies, recommends and implements technology concepts to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the District;
  • Management experience level comparable to building administrator or department head.

Responsibilities:

The District Manager of Safety and Operations will oversee safety and emergency preparedness throughout the District. This position will work in partnership with Administrators, Faculty and local emergency responders to develop and implement a comprehensive safety program. This program will promote a safe, secure and positive school climate for staff and students. The District Manager will also oversee district operations in various roles as assigned.

The District Manager of Safety and Operations shall:
  • Be responsible for the directing and managing of the day-to-day security operations in the district.
  • Serve as the liaison between the school district and local law enforcement, emergency management agencies, public safety communications, and local fire departments.
  • Serve as the primary Emergency Management official for the school district.
  • In collaboration with building principals, establish crisis emergency plans to include evacuations, lock-downs, and other crisis.
  • Perform physical audits of schools and buildings and provide recommendations based on findings to improve safety and security.
  • Establish and maintain a district Safety program, including:

  • a. Appropriate lighting and signage;
    b. Building safety systems;
    c. Building surveillance systems;
    d. Student and personnel identification procedures;
    e. Visitor registration and identification procedures;
    f. Staff orientation and training programs;
    g. Effective and efficient deployment of safety personnel.


    7. Collaborate with District Student Registrar on residency.
    8. Assist in overseeing Athletics, activities and other after-school programs.
    9. Collaborate with the Business Office to ensure the most cost-effective utilization of resources.
    10. Establish clear lines of accountability and command within the school safety force.
    11. In collaboration with the Manager of Human Resources, recruit, employ and train safety personnel as required.
    12. Display the highest ethical and professional behavior in working with students, parents, school personnel, and outside agencies associated with the school district.
    13. Serve as a role model for students and staff in demonstrating positive attitudes, appropriate attire and grooming, and effective work ethic.
    14. Participate in appropriate in-service and workshop programs and attend any required meetings.
    15. When practical, attend all evacuation and lockdown drills and Crisis Team meetings so to review, and assess school safety programs and procedures serving as a resource to the safety committee.
    16. Attend trainings on school safety to ensure the District is implementing best practices.
    17. Adhere to federal statutes and regulations, New Jersey school law, construction codes, State Board of Education rules and regulations, Board of Education policies and procedures, and contractual obligations.
    18. Perform such other duties as assigned and not otherwise prohibited by law or regulations.


    Contract Terms Of Employment:
    • Work year of twelve (12) months;
    • ? Salary, benefits, leave time and conditions as negotiated;
    • Conditions established by all laws and codes of the State, and all policies, rules and regulations established by the Board of Education (N.J.S.A. 18A:27-4 et seq.)

Employees of the school district hired prior to the September 1, 2011 effective date of this Act are grandfathered and are not required to relocate to New Jersey.
